Default Sport Design Steering Wheel removal

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic top part of the porsche sport design steering wheel? I am trying to change my steering wheel, and I just cannot remove the plastic silvery part off the original steering wheel.

Need some help.....

Its the 997.2 Sport Design Steering wheel, which is also used in the 991's... pic is attached..

Thanx!

If you're talking about removing the air bag module, you need to insert a screwdriver into the hole on underside of the hub to release the springs enough to release the airbag, then pull out and disconnect it. Then you can unscrew the center bold holding the wheel to the shaft. Suggest disconnecting the battery when disconnecting the airbag, and don't re-connect battery until airbag is re-connected.

I got past the step of removing the airbag already. I am just unable to remove the shiny, silvery plastic cover (parallel spokes) of the steering wheel. Cant seem to find anything online about it either...

Do you have to remove them to get the wheel off? Every pic I have seen of the wheel for sale have those still attached. I have not performed this removal, so I could be way off. Sorry for being no help.

It cannot be separated from the steering wheel. I also wanted to remove that piece as there is some discoloration/fading on the underside of the clear plastic. Consulted both Suncoast (where wheel was bought) and local dealer. Both have said its not possible. Must replace all but the airbag.

OK, but what are you attempting to do? Porsche does not sell this trim as a separate part. So IF you are able to remove the trim without busting most of the tabs off, what are you gonna do with it?

Hey Daberlin, I am trying to swap over my steering wheel. The new one I bought is just the core and does not include that plastic trim.

I was worried that it should have come with it, but now looking around online, it seems that you dont get that trim with the steering wheel. Its usually swapped with your original one. I think its called a "core exchange".

Did you ever get this piece removed? I would like to clean the inside of mine and was wondering if anyone has found a good way to do this?

I did it several times. Heaten it up before pulling does the trick and it comes off smoothly.

Pretty sure it just snaps on/off.. pull hard, but carefully. Get a thin trim removal tool underneath it to pry.
