I have about 45,000 miles on my Speed Yellow GT3. The front half of the car has a clear bra. I am noticing 3 types of problems:
Staining - looks like oil has discolored the plastic by the wheel wells
Dings - some road debris has marred a couple of places, like rock chips on a non-protected finish
Scratches - I have scratches on the plastic, perhaps from cleaning, perhaps from something else
So, my question is do I replace the film, or just remove it? Of the 3 problems above, only number 2 would have been an issue without the bra, and there are ways to deal with that.
Any suggestions? Does anyone else have problems with staining?
The bras don't last forever, they do show wear and tear over time as you've noticed. However, that's wear and tear your paint DIDN'T have to endure!
If you remove it, all the damage that has been done to the bra will immediately start happening to your paint.
I agree, they are a sacrificial barrier. The only reason not to replace is if you're not overly concerned with the cars long term appearance but it sounds like you are.
