Default Scored Number 6 cylinder

It's true, then. I boroscoped my friend's recently purchased 2005 (mid 04 production) C2S Tip with 50k miles after heavy oil consumption, dirty driver side tail pipe, carbon built up on exhaust valves and a clicking noise been bothering him. Our M97 engines can and do suffer from this problem although the PO did not seem like the kind that drives his/her car very hard. My friend did buy the car with a leaking water pump so I suspect PO had overheated the engine with lost coolant at some stage. Car still drives around ok but I have advised my friend not to until he got the problem fixed. We don't want a D-chunk, etc. I am trying to help him find the most economical, yet reliable, solution. Showed him the LN Engineering site as well as Hartech's which document the issue clearly. Anyone here had same experience and could share the steps and brands taken to fix?

Search topics related to engine failure and rebuild here and 6spd and you'll find volumes. Unfortunately.
