Default Redlined Today - Any Issues?

I took my 911S out for a drive this afternoon, and while manuevering through traffic, I punched her while in second gear and inadvertantly went to redline. This resulted in a momentary loss of engine power until such time as I let off the gas and simultaneously shifted into third. Given that I have only had the car 7 months, and have never come close to the redline, I was wondering if this could have caused any issues for me. I believe these cars have a fail safe that does shut the engine down at redline so I believe I should be okay but would be curious to hear from the experts. I rarely exceed 4K rpm in routine driving, however, it is fun to tach her up for a spiritied drive every now and then.

You are fine, the cpu shuts the engine when you approach redline, did that Sunday. It gets up there fast. You only need to worry about money shift. Computers can't save you there.

You'll be fine, the rev limiter cuts in and should avoid damage. The real issue is the money shift (downshift into the wrong gear causing major overrev.

Good to go. Your Rev Limiter saved your a$$. But, this only works on the way up. Not on a downshift. All you did was score a few Range #1 and Range #2's on your DME.

Thanks guys, the good news is that I did not down shift or over rev in the process. It's good to know that these magnificent machines can be driven like we do at times. Everyone should be so lucky!!!

If you sat next to a keen Porsche instructor at the track, he'd be up shifting at red line all day long. You went a little over that once, huh? My money says even if you sat on first, floored the throttle and let the rev limiter bounce off redline a hundred times, your engine would still be fine. Cops might throw you behind bars, though.

I was at a PCA event at Road America a couple years ago. During one of the classroom sessions with Duck Waddle (real name, has more laps at speed at RA than most) was asked by a student when to up-shift when coming out of turn #5 heading up the hill. His response was, "You have a rev limiter, right? Use it".

True story.

.....it's what the right pedal is for.......drive it. The more you drive it harder, the better it'll feel.
I am such a lucky b@st@rd that I have two, an '87 and an '09. The Old Girl loves the red line all day long at the track, and I found out a month ago that so does the '09 ...

+1. It is advisable to reve above 4K frequently, your engine likes to rev between 4K and7K.

Your Porsche performs at it's best close to redline.
