Following this thread...I love the ducktail on the 997 but unsure if I want to go down this road...
One Q: does anyone know how much weight this mod saves over the stock wing on a 997.2? |

Hi all,
I installed mine last night, and I have a few questions for anyone who installed this DIY: 1. Is epoxy the best way to install the grills? That's the only way I can figure. 2. Did anyone else have trouble with fitment? I had it painted and installed it myself using the pics at their link, and while the hood will close, the leading edge of the duck tail binds against the sheet metal on the back of the car. Is the best way forward to pull the wing and cut the fiberglass back? I think I could get away with a few washers or a few layers of gasket material, but don't want to lift it any more than I have to. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks in advance, Noah |
@ BigTex
Pics please... No advice but very interested! |
I epoxied screws onto the wing in the location of the edge holes on the grilles. Four for each side. I then put the grilles in position and screwed them down.
Sorry to here about your figment issues. Mine fix very well and I have been happy since installing it. |
My understanding is you can't get the OEM sport classic ducktail without a VIN showing your car is a Sport Classic 997!!

Have you guys seen the ducktail on a 991??? Uuuuggglllyyyy!

Hmm, not crazy, as a full aerokit is $6K. I wonder if it included the whole lid or not.

I don't have good pics yet, but the car looks fantastic, just as the rest of the ones in this thread. There is just a millimeter or two of clearance I need to figure out, and I was hoping someone else had dealt with the same issue.
I'll go ahead and use some epoxy on the grills the next time I have it apart. For now, I just washed the dust off the sheet metal underneath the intakes, and on a black car, it's really not that noticeable. Thanks to all, Noah |
with people who did the "taller style" ducktails that cover the 3rd brake light... does someone sell /is there a panel or kit that deletes on car 3rd brakelight so it can be clean like the sport classic? and not have double brake light action going on?

FYI, if you decide to go this route, when taking the carpeted interior piece out from under the rear window to get to the 2 nuts, you WILL break some of the clips securing the carpeted piece in place. be sure to buy some from the dealer before you tackle this job. i bought 6 just to have on hand, they were less than $2 each if i remember correctly. |
