:thumbup:Here's my Misha ducktail.
Thanks to the folks at Pfaff Porsche Autoworks for the great paintwork. |
It really looks great. I understand that it is an insert to replace the "pop-up" OEM spoiler. How is the fit, out of the box? How easy is it to install? Is there a water drainage issue into the air intake? Questions but important and not to distract from a really sharp looking addition to your 997. Look forward to your answers.
|
Literally drops in right out of the box. Few mm of play which gives a bit of room to center before drilling the mounting holes.
Came primed white and included the vent grills. The grills are oem parts from I think a GT3-RS spoiler. In fact, I think that's what it is minus the top wing so I don't think the water drainage will be any different than the GT3-RS. It's more work removing the old one than installing the new one. One beer & 1 cigar's time to install. LOL I did remove the harness which has the spoiler motor and 3rd pop up brake light wires and replaced it with the Aero harness which has no 3rd or 4th really brake light. (part # 997 612 670 71) or motor wires. Now the only thing left is to go to the dealer and have them turn off the pop up spoiler option. A warning appears on screen at 75mph/120kph and then goes off again below. (there's always something). But I personally love the lower subtle profile. The OEM ductail like on the Sport Classic is higher which hides the rear window brake light which is why it has a brake light built in. |
Looks great, I have the same ducktail on mine and love it. The dealer will have your error light fixed in a couple minutes. Enjoy...
|
Beautiful.
|
That is a great looking spoiler!!
|
Wow...that colour with the ducktail looks terrific!
|
Nice paintjob by the guys at Pfaff!
Thank you very much for sharing these photos; we at Misha Designs are very happy that you like the new look of your car. :) |
Looks great! Your ducktail/tail light/exhaust upgrades all go together nice and make your car look very sharp!
Can you show us a pic more from above to see the grills etc, thanks! Rob |
Saw this up close on Sunday.. Paint match is perfect, looks great and really highlights how wide the narrow body truly is (although those deep dish wheels help too :)) Great job WC
|
Nice

Looks great!

awesome thanks.

I have my Misha Design ducktail installed, the fit is perfect right out of the box. That said, I have noticed that at 75mph (legal in Texas) the ducktail has more downforce than the OEM pop-up spoiler so I now am looking for a small front splitter/spoiler. I would prefer flexible black plastic as it will take dings. Anyone have suggestions?
|
The brands and styles are endless.
Google it and you'll be amazed. At this time I've not added it yet as I scrape too often on the driveway now. Having said that though, I would opt for a urethane one over fibre glass or carbon fibre as it would flex rather than break when bottoming. |
HAWT!
|
That's gorgeous! LOVE it!
|
I've seen Will's car in person, many times...it really is gorgeous! Although not a fan of spoilers, I do like duck tails . Just something retro and right about them. :)
|
WC who did you get the aero harness from?

Got it at the dealer. About $60-70 if memory serves One more 4 good measure. |
Your ducktail works really well with SY...would love to see some sport classic fuchs wheels on your beauty!
|
How's the performance at speed? (Above 125mph) Many years ago I discovered how significant an aero aid can be when the system is really challenged above 125 mph.
|
Looks great. What kind of exhaust did you install?
|
Looks great. Did Pfaff put incorporate anything into the trunk lid to stop the rain from going directing into your air intake?
|
Yah, id be concerned with the water ingress as it seems to have an unobstructed passage to your intake. But your car looks great with it bro, hope you do not mind but can you share how much your duck cost? Looking at your ride is one good ad for misha.

May have install a front lip now to compensate. I would imagine even more downforce with some of the other higher tails out there. I just liked the lower subtle look myself.

Was getting really tired of scrubbing the carbon from the porous brushed oem tips. Now it just a wipe with a damp paper towel.

The grilles were in actual Porsche bags with part numbers. Phaff did what they said was a pre bake of the tail looking for air bubbles. Found none and said it was excellent quality. Paint match was uncanny for an 8 year old car.

Dealing with them was a total joy! Plus being in Canada I paid shipping , exchange , duties & taxes. Lets just say around a grand with paint and Areo harness. Was worth every penny though. Love the look and the comments never stop. |

Looks great!
What wheels are those?? Also...be curious to see what you come up with for a front lip/spoiler! I've been looking my incoming 997.2 and not seeing much other than $1600 stuff. |

Thanks for the wheel info.
Ya, that's the issue I'm having when searching, there seem to be NO flexible CHEAP lips for the 997.2 like there are for the previous models. I mean $1100, $900, hell even $500 is ridiculous for a disposable part like that. |
It's nice how it complements the 997 shape. It shows how nicely the 997 was designed, staying within the fundamental 911 shape, that a ducktail still looks mighty good on it!

Nothing close to OEM ductail, so much cleaner and better implemented.

Not usually a big fan of rear spoilers for street cars, but, wow, these look great!
|
Alex oem will always be oem we all know. Im sure that lid isnt cheap either
|
I ask the dealer about the Sport Classic OEM tail.
Don't know if he was yanking my chain but.....are you sitting? $4k...unpainted! |

Following this thread...I love the ducktail on the 997 but unsure if I want to go down this road...
One Q: does anyone know how much weight this mod saves over the stock wing on a 997.2? |

Hi all,
I installed mine last night, and I have a few questions for anyone who installed this DIY: 1. Is epoxy the best way to install the grills? That's the only way I can figure. 2. Did anyone else have trouble with fitment? I had it painted and installed it myself using the pics at their link, and while the hood will close, the leading edge of the duck tail binds against the sheet metal on the back of the car. Is the best way forward to pull the wing and cut the fiberglass back? I think I could get away with a few washers or a few layers of gasket material, but don't want to lift it any more than I have to. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks in advance, Noah |
@ BigTex
Pics please... No advice but very interested! |
I epoxied screws onto the wing in the location of the edge holes on the grilles. Four for each side. I then put the grilles in position and screwed them down.
Sorry to here about your figment issues. Mine fix very well and I have been happy since installing it. |
My understanding is you can't get the OEM sport classic ducktail without a VIN showing your car is a Sport Classic 997!!
|
Have you guys seen the ducktail on a 991??? Uuuuggglllyyyy!

Hmm, not crazy, as a full aerokit is $6K. I wonder if it included the whole lid or not.

I don't have good pics yet, but the car looks fantastic, just as the rest of the ones in this thread. There is just a millimeter or two of clearance I need to figure out, and I was hoping someone else had dealt with the same issue.
I'll go ahead and use some epoxy on the grills the next time I have it apart. For now, I just washed the dust off the sheet metal underneath the intakes, and on a black car, it's really not that noticeable. Thanks to all, Noah |
with people who did the "taller style" ducktails that cover the 3rd brake light... does someone sell /is there a panel or kit that deletes on car 3rd brakelight so it can be clean like the sport classic? and not have double brake light action going on?

FYI, if you decide to go this route, when taking the carpeted interior piece out from under the rear window to get to the 2 nuts, you WILL break some of the clips securing the carpeted piece in place. be sure to buy some from the dealer before you tackle this job. i bought 6 just to have on hand, they were less than $2 each if i remember correctly. |

OEM 997 Turbo filler panel takes care of this problem, and looks great. i believe it is the same panel Porsche used on the Sport Classic. i did it on mine, very simple, just 4(?) screws on the outside, and 2 nuts on the inside secure the panel.

Update: the guys at Intersport tweaked something and it lines up perfectly. For some reason I can't upload pictures, but would be happy to email them if anyone is curious.
Take care, Noah |
