Default rain-x...enough?

just read that some use rain-x and no wipers...is this true, or possible? I would love to eliminate wiper blades from the car...so much cleaner look...and I used to leave the wipers in the trunk when I lived in phoenix...if it looked like rain could put them on in a minute, happened once or twice a year, in Germany this is not possible, could rain-x be the answer?

No, you need a fresh coat of Rain-X plus some forward velocity for it to work, so not recommended unless you never drive when there is moisture including fog.

I Rain-X my windows yearly and it really reduces the amount of water that collects on the windows. If it is raining lightly, so a long as I am moving, I do not usually need to turn the wipers on.

Almost, but not quite. It's very useful and especially at night you barely need wipers, but I wouldn't remove them completely.

Yes, it reduces the use of wipers. My wife is always in awe of the water beading up and moving off the windshield. I'd never remove my wipers though (you never know when you'll need 'em).

Rain X rocks but I wouldn't remove wipers. It just reduces the wiper usage

I still need the wipers to remove dirt or pollen... we get enough here in a day that my car has a coat of yellow caked on it from just driving outside. During the wrong time of day you can actually see clouds of yellow pollen being blown by the wind across the roads. There's also the butterfly migration season. You can't dodge them all... you just have to drive through them so a good wiper spray and wiper action does the job allowing me to continue driving. In my case I would not consider removing the blades.

I rain-x all my cars and rarely use wipers just don't forget the rear window BTW, I had a recent track day with rain in the forecast and was looking forward to evaluating the rain-x performance. Sadly, it stayed dry...

Is it even legal to remove the wipers?

I live in Seattle so I deal with more rain than most I guess, but even with rainx there's no way I could do away with wipers.

Also be sure NOT to rainx the spot where the rain sensor is on the windshield. If you do, the automatic wipers won't turn on properly.

Rain X work really well with medium to large rain drops and you are traveling 35 mph or faster. Light mist or small drops and slow speeds you will still need to hit the wipers. Highway speeds rain x ROCKS!!

Rain-X it regularly, and then keep a set of Daily Driver wipers on it--keeping the real ones for your rainy season. Otherwise, the sun will just bake them. Sadly, Rain-X, although outstanding, it's enough on its own. It was originally developed for aircraft windshields, and daily used within the USAF. Obviously, no significant wiper blades on many of those canopies, but the forward velocity is what does the real work. When I used to fly we had wiper blades on our windscreens but rarely used them, even in heavy rain on an approach. The wind does the work.

YES. In light rain, properly-applied RainX will prevent the need for wipers. Heavy rain, same story. In other words, in my experience, RainX eliminates the need for wipers.

I owned a car for five years that I faithfully maintained with RainX. When I went to sell it I pointed out to the buyer that there were no marks on the wind screen from the wipers because they had NEVER been used. This is the biggest advantage to me. The wipers will drag dust and particles across your wind screen and permanently etch the glass. But be forewarned, you will be hard-pressed to find a buyer who cares. If you do it, you're doing it for yourself. Does not mean one cent in resale value.

After telling my buyer about the windscreen, he took a wiper in his hand and the blade was literally falling apart from non-use. So I replaced the blades before he took delivery.

I use RainX on my Porsches, but I graduated beyond the stage of having to own the car without ever using the wipers. I don't care as much anymore.
