Default 997 GTS vs. 991 S

997 GTS or 991 S, which would you choose and why? I’ll cross post in both forums to see both sides. Car is for the GF so either would be PDK and used, lots of used 991 S’s out their now in the 90k range, GTS’s in the 80k range. Performance wise I’m sure the 991 wins, but that probably isn’t the biggest factor. Looks are subjective, she likes the 997 interior better. Major drawback I see of the GTS are the dreaded center locks.

What do people think?

Center Locks are a PITA. There are some GTS with 5 lug option. Honestly I think the 991S would be better for a daily driver. I have a GTS and have driven the 991S and the 991S feels more plush.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the center locks, I see they are standard now on the 2014 GT3. Does she need to care about the dreaded center locks, she won't be changing a flat, and any issues would be covered by CPO, no?

I agree that the Alcantara interior is very nice, and the GTS is not short on power. I think GTS has some nice options that will cost more to find on a 991S. GTS looks more agressive, rides lower. In the end, its probably the subjective issues that win the argument. I went with the GTS.

No wrong choice here, go with what she loves, and enjoy reaping the rewards.

I'd take a 991S over a 997 GTS any day of the week.
Newer car. Newer technology.
You're a nice BF.

I won’t rehash all the center lock issues here but check the GT3 forum. The 2014 GT3 may or may not have the same design. For me it would be the biggest issue against the getting the GTS and I’d be the one that would have to deal with them. It would basically mean having to have all your tire work done at a the dealer $$$$ or finding a shop you really trust to deal with taking them off putting them on properly.

On the other hand for a 991 S, it seems hard to find a car spec’ed the way we’d want it to be, but much easier to find a desirable spec on a GTS.

saw one just like this rolling down the street this week. Everyone stopped to look at it go by.
Mind you there are plenty of 997 and Panameras around here...

Although I'd rather score a deep discount on a 997 than pay that princely premium for the latest and greatest.

Drive them both and get the one you like. I would not let the center lock wheels scare you off. If you track the car and/or want or need to change the wheels frequently, then they could be an issue. But for street use, they are not an issue. I have a 2012 GTS with center locks that I have had for almost two years. Never had a single moment of trouble with the center locks, and they look great. The wheels are very high quality, forged wheels also. I do take my car to my local dealer for tire work. I don't trust the monkeys at the tire shops to dismount and mount tires. If my dealer screws up a wheel, he will buy me a new one.

Not another GTS vs 991S thread! Anyway, I was in the same situation last year and went with the GTS. It just felt more special. I also like the shape of the 997.2 better. But you can't go wrong with either one. Maybe 10 years from now I'll be wishing I had the more comfortable car. But the GTS isn't too harsh for everyday driving when not in sport or sport plus mode.

Just bought a brand new gts after extensively testing both. To me the GTS feels lighter, tighter more like a sports car..... And I love the width of the GTS( has 4s width) and the exclusivity of having a special model. There really is no wrong answer here though - both are amazingly great cars - you can't go wrong with either!

I like both but would only go for the GTS if significantly cheaper i.e. >25% significant. As mentioned, 991 has better creature comfort (e-brake, e-steering ), mileage, safety features and roomier. Did she see a light colored interior? I can't remember which one it was but that interior color looked cheap. In any case, you are one lucky guy. GFs normally, sorry changed that to, always prefers the more expensive one. If she's just going to be driving around, the 991 is going to turn more heads (and attract unnecessary attention?)!

I love the GTS with the wide body on a 2WD car. I hate the center locks. My nearest dealer is 150 miles away.

For GF? Is so, why not Boxster? Open roof, just as fun, the new one is actually quite fast and to me, a much bigger upgrade over last gen than 991 is over 997!

If it has to be 911, I honestly just go with base 991, GTS is definitely my choice if it was for you, you wanted manual, and like the more raw feel. 991 is definitely more of a GT, and GF car!
