So I sent the car to the local dealership for it's 36k maintenance and the total is $1300. Seems steep to me for what is being done so who do you use to normally do service on your Pcars?

I got the following prices from the local Porsche dealer a couple of weeks ago
Oil change $260
Brake Bleed $280
30K service (oil change, plugs (not coils), belt, air filters) $1675
water pump replacement $1020
So it really depends on what actual work they are including in the 36K work

stealership prices are ridiculous. do yourself a favor and search the DIYs on here and learn how to do the "routine" stuff. a lot of the stuff associated with the XX mile services is no more than 5 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, assuming you have apposable thumbs and access to basic tools.

If you are not a DIY person, take the time to find a competent independent shop that knows these cars. They will charge you legitimate hourly rates for the most part and reasonable markup on parts. The dealer has an hourly charge posted but they always charge you for waaaaaay more time than these things actually take. For example, an oil change takes about 1/2 an hour plus about $70 for the oil and filter. Spark plugs 2 hours plus $50 for the plugs. Brake bleed about an hour plus about $15 for the brake fluid. These maintenance items are usually charged at least double the actual hours they take and the parts prices are outrageous. My dealer wanted to charge me $280 parts charge for $50 spark plugs.

Dealer, main services appear on the carfax which is good for resale and a lot of labor goes towards inspecting coolant lines, oil lines, suspension bolts, calliper bolts.... I track so I want these items to be inspected on a regular basis. The tech not the service advisor always gives me a written report of all conditions of these items.

If under warranty, I'd use the dealer.
I'm outside of warranty so I do routine stuff myself. With my other cars I've found so many things done wrong: body clips missing, under carriage panels with mounting holes ripped to short cut removing them to get to the oil filter, tools left in the engine, bolts stripped (all of these were from the VW dealer).
I prefer to do things myself now. It may take longer, but I know it will be done right. For jobs too big for me to tackle (none yet) I'll go to a quality Indy.

36K here is all fluids (minus brakes) replaced, filters replaced, spark plugs replaced (idle was getting a little wavy), brake, tire check, all gaskets and fittings checked.
I am capable enough to do oil and filter changes by myself at home, but I wanted the dealer to do the first major service of the car. I guess it's good that I brought it in cause they found a small coolant leak that was getting on the ignition coils. So the ignition coils, coolant pipe, and coolant are getting replaced on warranty. Glad I decided to do my 36K at 34,500ish as my warranty expires this September I believe.

Arctic....it was years ago on my 2001 C4S....I can't remember exactly but it ran horribly and had a very rough idle....took it back and no difference....took it to dealer and its fixed.
I believe you get what you pay for and for me the dealer has always done a great job!

My dealership is pretty reasonable. The work they did on my car (springs/exhaust) was well under one independent, and slightly higher than another. Of course I got a loaner car and peace of mind, two things I couldn't take for granted at the independents...
