Default Redline gear lube in the diff - anyone tried it?

[FONT="Comic Sans MS"]My 2007 C2S has developed a whine in the transmission or the differential. The car is fitted with a tiptronic and has 62K miles. Two Chief Mechanics from 2 different shops both said the same thing -some tiptronic trans develope a whine after 50-60K miles.
The noise is pronounced at 75-85 MPH, not overly loud but definitely there. As it becomes apparent under load, and disappears when you lift off the throttle, I am inclined to think this is in the diff and not in the transmission.
So - my question:
I have used Redline products in several Ferrari gearboxes and transaxles over the years. In my 348TS, the 85-90NS made a huge difference in transaxle whine.
Has anyone tried Redline products in their car? As you know, choosing alternative lubricants carries some associated risk. For example, several 348 owners put redline 'shockproof' transaxle fluid in their boxes. Really made them quiet until they turned into a hand grenade. Shockproof has a particulate additive not suitable for transaxles with oil pumps and screens.

Thoughts? Examples? thanks.

well, not exactly your circumstances but i'll chime in at least - i use a 50/50 mix of redline 75w90/75w90NS in my 6sp which doubles as a daily driver and track car. been using that for ~2 yrs now and no issues but then again i didnt really notice that much diff from stock.

Trans fluid for Porsche's tip system is very-very specific. Use OEM fluid. And I doubt a fluid service is going to eliminate your whine.

I am not suggesting an alternative fluid for the tiptronic. The question relates to use of Redline gear lube in the differential only.

Oh, I missed that part. Sorry. Are you sure it's not a shared system?

I'd still recommend OEM fluid.

I've gotten speedy and thorough response from Redline when I needed to know about which product of theirs I should use for a particular system. You might send them an email and tell them a bit about the diff and what it requires from the factory.

In my experiences there aren't to many oil's or lubes that fix a mechanical problem. If it is as you describe, whine is noticeable on throttle and lessens or stops when you lift than that is most commonly associated with a gear set noise. This is usually caused by the wearing away of the gears allow ring and pinion backlash to increase which creates the noise your talking about. It will likely run for many more miles like that and just be a little annoying to listen to.

Yes you are correct..... changing the lube won't fix the problem. I was hopeful that changing to a redline product might reduce the noise some, however I have noticed now that I have a harmonic vibration at freeway speeds that is definitely linked to the noise. Both are more pronounced under load and less noticeable when you lift off the thottle. I am considering a salvage yard tiptronic unit and performing a swap..... the most frustrating thing is finding a shop with a good reputation that understands what the problem really is.
