New ride 997.2 Carrera S or 997.2 Targa 4S
Hi friends,
Just joined the Rennlist family. I am a Belgian expat living in Shanghai for over 9 years now. The last 2 years I owned a 997.1 Carrera S, which I sold yesterday.
Time to move on, after several visits to the Porsche dealer in Shanghai, I have 2 options (both Porsche Approved), a 2010 Carrera S Platinum Silver on Sand Beige full leather with 9.700 km + sports chrono package or a 2011 Targa 4S Platinum Silver on Black full leather with 13.500 km. Both cars come with PDK and have options like sat. nav.
Car will be used a daily drive for my wife and daddy's toy for the weekend Furthermore we plan some weekend drives (wife + 1 child 5 years old + myself). NO track activities planned ... Car is intended to stay in my garage for a longer time, means several years.
I prefer the Targa 4S, the WB *** is irresistible, the only thing I doubt about the Targa 4S is the long-term quality of the roof - noises (?).
Can anybody help me out please ???

If the Prices are the same as well as condition, maintenance records, and such I would go for the Targa. I went with a 2010 C2S, but I was open to a C4S if I found one as nice as the car I ended up buying.
I think you will be happy with either, I would not let the Targa scare you, I would have bought one, I liked the fact Golf Clubs go in the back easy. Hatchbacks are Great!!!!!!!!!

Thanks MessyMarvin, prices are very similar (US$ 187,500 for the Carrera 2S and US$ 190,400 for the Targa 4S). You can see, it's quite expensive here in China to be bitten by the 997 virus. Actually a ****load of money compared to US prices. But nothing to do about that, import of second hand cars is stricktly forbidden :-(

Targa all the way! For me it is the best of both worlds. I drive a convertible now and love it on perfect weather days. Looking at the targa you will be able to have the option to see the beauty without the open air.
Really nice that you have those 2 options.
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks a lot guys for all your comments and wise advice. I don't believe I have to count the votes, obviously my preference towards the Targa 4S is confirmed, I will go for it.
As soon the deal is done (Hope this weekend) and take delivery of the car (end of March) I keep you guys posted with some nice pictures out of China.
Cheers

I owned a Targa for a while, and while it was a great car, the only feature I really miss is the roof......but like someone mentioned to me the TT is "superior" in every way.......
but as far as looks and rarity.........the Targa!
don't let the 'possibility
of a bad glass roof throw you off
