Default Looking for my first Porsche, some questions.

Hi,

I'm a BMW guys currently with my 6 series. As the thread title, I'm in a search for a 997 911 S or 4S. I'm fine with both manual or auto. Could anyone please tell me what years is better, affordable and less troubles. I'm looking to spend about $55k-$60k range. I saw some body did an upgrade on tail light LED on a 2006, so If I get anything before 2009 I'll probably upgrade the LED looks. And What should I be concern when I look at the 911.

Thanks

Rey

Rey: There are lots of threads on this. The search function will point you in the right way. The main thing you will want to look at is 997.1 vs. 997.2 (vs. is really not the right term they are both great cars). The .2 have the direct injection engine (slightly better power and mpg) and updated electronics. I have a .1 and it has been perfectly awesome. There is some concern about IMS failure in very low mileage 2005 cars, but it is, from what I have seen, it is fairly infrequent and if you look at an '05 car, you actually want it to have some mileage on it. I came to Porsche after 6 BMW's, and as my as I loved my Beamers, the Porsche is awesome.

Thanks, really appreciate your reply.

I will do my search but do you have any "key word" suggestion that I should look up to? I will do the research about 997.1 and .2 as well as the IMS problem by now first.

Rey,

You should be able to get into a 2006-08 for this money with low mileage and also depending on the options. The LED light thing doesn't interest me a bit....just lights man.

The search will be difficult because there aren't tons of cars out there. Narrow it down to color and the options. The options are endless. With your budget you should be able to get something nice. Most Porsche owners take really good care of their cars. Start by traveling to the dealers and looking at their stock. Certified Pre Owned is goof for warranty and piece of mind. I'm fond of the the Carrera S. The IMS thingy has been blown out of proportion and if you didn't look at this forum you'd probably never be aware of the issue.

BTW.....Auto is lame and Porsche makes the most dependable vehicles on the market. Plenty awards.

Good luck.

good luck with the hunt: go for the manual if you can find one, a lot of fun!
I had an 07 Targa for a bit, then traded it towards a TT of the same year......
granted I have not had it very long, but I was happy to get a faster car and the
options on the inside didn't really concern me a lot mostly because it is a third car
to serve a particular purpose: FUN!
I agree with Spokane about a lot of owners taking good care of their Porsche's and the amount
you mentioned sounds great for something really nice...
would it be serving the DD purpose?

sounds exciting to be on the hunt again

I would suggest you start searching Porsche Dealers websites for their used 911's, it will provide you with a solid basis for potentially valuing privately offered PCARS. Also the Porsche Certified Used car extended warranty can save you money potentially on repairs in future, they are normally 5 yr/100K miles from date of original delivery date. Porsche finance recently has been offering 1.9% financing on selected used 911's.

OP. Your budget makes a 09 non S a decent possibility. If you go 65k maybe you can find a S. 09 means you get the revised lights, PCM, and DI engine.

PDK is the only auto you should consider given your budget and is available starting in 09. Tip isn't highly regarded based on rennlist feedback I've read.

06 thru 08 are nice cars too and these have the older non Di engines. You could find a loaded 07 or 08.

Good luck.

Hi Rey,

I am in a situation similar to yours as well. I drive a 987 Boxster right now, and I am looking for a 987.2. The good thing is I am in no rush and my Porsche sales person is looking for a ruby red or macadamia C4 now. I have searched this site which has been very helpful.

Good luck.
