my tips look like the PSE and when i hit sport the exhaust deinitely sounds louder and even burlbes

i just dont have the exhaust flap button.. my car is an 05 with sports chrono!

Uhh I don't think so.. please correct me if I'm wrong. I also have one small tip, one big, and sports chrono. No exhaust button on the dashboard. It does sound a little "burblier" with sports mode on, but I thought this was just opening up a baffle in the intake?

take a pic with the engive cover open or look for a red connector on the top right. looks like PSE to me. if you have chrono, you wont have a seperate button.

This has come up in the past. For 997.1 cars with Sport Chrono and PSE installed at the factory, the PSE on/off switch is part of the "Sport" button.

I believe in 2009 they switched over to always having a separate PSE button, regardless of Sport Chrono.

So yes. You have PSE. Tips + burbling + 997.1 + no separate button = PSE.

That's interesting. So, if you have PSE and SC on a 997.1, you can't have the PSE active unless in Sport mode? What if you don't want or like the increased throttle response in sport mode. Does that mean no PSE without the increased throttle response.

i was thinking about this too.. i was told that if you disconnect the vacuum lines to the valves it will stay in the open position creating more flow.

that being said.. when i am using bluetooth or want to have a conversation with the passenger in the car its kind of nice to be able to quiet down the exhaust by just not activating sport mode.

I am really loving the fuctionality of the 997.. i came from a 996 turbo which is pure power and insanity! this is a lot more refined and actually makes for a better daily. one thing i do miss is the transmission in the 996tt is was so race derived and that gt1 block! i mean damn!!!

for the money i think early 997's are a bargain

Correct. They are integrated on the 997.1. The Sport button also lights up the "suspension" button, but you can turn that off separately by toggling the suspension button off. But PSE and throttle response are inseparable - at least if you got PSE from the factory.

There's a hack to get you what you want - disconnect the orange connector in the upper right corner of your engine compartment. This will engage the PSE full time. But there have been issues posted about that. After leaving it disconnected for a length of time, the baffles may get stuck open, so reconnecting the plug doesn't turn off the PSE.

Thanks for the explanation. Not sure I would like that setup on 997.1 with SC and PSE. I never liked that "twitchy" throttle response in sport mode. I had a 2007 997.1 S with SC, but no PSE, so I didn't know how the two worked together. My 2008 997 S had PSE, but no SC, so I had a PSE switch. My 2012 GTS also has just PSE with no SC, and it has the PSE switch.

Good thing I didn't buy PSE - that would have been an embarrassing visit to the shop!

Guess I'll have to read into how to do the PSE speed cut-out bypass.

I did find that, but thanks! I would love to be able to press a button and switch it on and off, without needing the touchy sport mode for day driving.

I'm looking at the Carnewal unit, but I don't like how it uses a cheesy keyfob to switch the exhaust.

If your PSE was factory installed then the DME controls the PSE vacuum ports . . . . Not the 'Sport' button. Depending on speed your PSE is enabled/disabled via the DME.

Most post factory PSE integration is done w/ a simple switch to control the PSE vacuum solenoid. Of course (as someone already mentioned) you can simply 'disconnect' the vacuum soleniod and you'll be in the 'loud' state all the time.

I believe the 'Sport' button just changes the throttle map and stiffens the suspension.

There was a post here with the leads that need to be shorted for the valve to open up... you can wire up a toggle switch to that and hide it in your ashtray for example. too lazy to search this out especially since I dont have PSE (and I am "between" 997's)
