Default PCM problem

Occassonally, when I go to change a preset station by punching one of the numbered buttons the PCM turns off. Hit the on button and all seems fine. First time it happened thought I had just hit the off button by mistake but evidently that wasn't the case. Only does it occassioally and there doesn't appear to be anything else wrong with the unit . Anyone ever experienced this behavior ? Could this be software glitch ?

This sounds familiar for some reason, but I've not had it happen to me from what I can remember.

Does it happen when you hit one particular preset button or is it random with any of the presets?

Has happened with more than one button. Hard to duplicate as it's a very random event.

I had several issues with my PCM (replaced 3 times). Not your same exact issues, but radio changed stations on its own, Bluetooth would switch on and off by itself, radio would turn off and on by itself - no button depressed (this characteristic seemed to happen when using GPS).

Your dealer may need to load the newest software version.

Good luck,
Dave

If it is happening repeatedly try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 minutes and reconnect. But beware that some features may not come back, i.e. in my car when the battery is disconnected and reconnected, the seat heaters do not come on and need to be re-activated via the Bosch unit used by Dealer or Indy shops.

What the?! Seriously? Those settings are not stored in internal flash memory that retains settings with power loss? Why the heck not? Those settings are rarely changed ... perfect use for a small amount of flash memory. Why should one have to go to a dealer to get stuff reprogrammed that were installed, just because a battery died for more than 10 minutes?

You would think the settings will be stored since everything else including radio pre-sets are. But it has happened to me twice with a battery disconnect, no seat heaters till they are reset via the Bosh device Dealer and Indy use.

Keep in mind that you should have a listing of all the activation codes for your VIN number so that everything you paid for is reinstated when powered back up. Sometimes things have a tendency of disappearing when they are powered down or swapped out.

Only PCNA can provide that to the dealership with the appropriate VIN. What they will provide your dealer is the MMI Enabling Codes. They are 16 digit alphanumeric strings that must be inserted in order to activate them.

I watched my Indy do it with their Bosch device (claimed cost $24K), it first records all options, radio presets, seat memory, etc. values and reloads afterwards. Somehow on my car, seat heaters are not recorded but can be added manually.

How do we get this MMI Enabling code, Edgy01?

So if I go to a dealer, can I get them to provide me with the dump of codes for my car as it stands? I'd like to have that print out so I can keep it with the manual in the car so its available if something needs to be re-enabled.

The dealer will submit your VIN to Atlanta and they will reply with an email with all the codes authorized for that VIN. Your service manager should be able to give you a copy.
