Back in July 2011 I posted this:
With the full factory PSE set up the drop in volume was not due to European regulations--it was all due to Switzerland. They have highly restrictive sound regulations.
If your 997 is equipped with the PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) system it quiets down between 45 kph and 75 kph (28-47 mph) to comply with strict Swiss noise abatement regulations.
(It's another reason why these cars don't beep when you lock the doors--it creates noise.)
This applies to the 997.1 cars. However, with the changes to the entire that involve the direct injection system, exhaust noise is effectively dampened whether you have a PSE or not. The PSE design is thus considerably different than that designed for the 997.1 engines. They are considerably tamer on the 997.2 engines.
