Default 997 and suspension, PASM or not

Dear All,

Im a long time rennlister on the 964 forum, have just owned 964:s Starting the procedure of adding a 997. Starting to learn and figure out what I want. Regarding suspension it looks like most 997:s are too high, is it as easy to change springs in them as any earlier Porsche, taken the car might have all the stuff like PASM,PSM and all the other 3 letters...

yep, easy (notwithstanding the fact that you will prob need an alignment etc). be advised tho, with newer models come peskier snags and issues - lowering via springs may have a detrimental effect on the shock itself or on other systems in the car (ABS, PASM, PSM, etc). your best bet is to do search on here for the folks who have successfully done spring-only changes.

Nice 964s in your avatar Henrik,
With 993s, 996s and 997II I've never been a fan of just changing springs but it would be your car and your drive.
Keep in mind that cars with either PASM or Sport PASM have active suspensions meaning that the struts and shocks have damping controlled, to a degree, by the car's brain.....that's taking into account a number of live factors.

So.....asside from this being another reason to not just mess with just the spring, PASM also narrows the your aftermarket suspension options....to those engineered to plug into and coordinate with he on-board active suspension system.
At the end of the day, it's not rocket science. It's still a fully adjutable coil-over we've used for 30 yrs.
Good luck and have fun planning your next move.

Thanks Greg, the red I just sold and the white is a keeper that always Will be around. The things You point out are exactly those i have thoughts of. Will probably end up with replacing both springs And shocks but figured i could start with the springs, this car is not going to be tracked. Best thing would be to turn to an expert on this. are they all adjustable like 964:s and the 993:s? Dont like the suv look.

I am sorry, you think 997 has SUV look? Cannot be serious!

PASM is 10mm lower, 997.2 S-PASM is 20mmm lower (10mm lower than PASM)... I would NOT go any lower than S-PASM.

He's serioius......wife's 997II C4S Cab (PASM) was incredibly high....N.American Cabs were not available w/Sport PASM.
I dropped her car another 20mm from PASM height.....Bilstien.

I like your definition of "incredibly high"... like if you could cross a river in your C4S!

I absolutely LOVE the ride height and wheelwell gap on my PASM, it's a perfect balance between ride, handling, looks, AND drivability on regular streets with pot holes, speed bumps, etc...

Are you interested in a base model which can be had without PASM? If so, see this post https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...6-carrera.html and this ebay listing http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...t_16924wt_1167 Dave

Thanks for good input!
It Will be the s model. Suv is a bit exessively but I do think they look better 2 cm lower. There was a red base model with 19" wheels and 2 cm lower for sale on ebay that looked awsome!! After searching i understand there are both springs and coil kits that Will do the work. However i do not want to end up with it as stifff as a 964 with bilsteins pss: s or similar. My 964 is not very comfortable on the road....
