Why are the oil passage windows so high up? It seems they should be as close to the sump plate as possible to trap the most oil.

That's what I thought also but pictures can be deceiving, that's why I requested measurements before commiting to buy.

USMC- please post your install in the DIY if you can. I'd like to see how difficult the install will be. Has FVD posted instructions?

I haven't seen the instructions yet but will post what I find and likely write up a DIY.

Byprodriver, We are currently back ordered on these pans so I don't have any to measure the spacer for you. I apologize. I will have more come in on Monday the 18th so I can answer you then. If you are still interested I will make sure that you still get the same discount.

This is designed in the exact same manner as the factory X51 oil pan. The center traps more oil with the windows being higher and unidirectional. This pan adds a quart of oil over your stock pan so there is more oil to be trapped in the center as well. If you wish I will extend the offer for you as well since I won't be able to convey the length of the pick up spacer until Monday the 18th.

Thanks USMC! Like in your next to last picture, distance from the "floor" of the oilpan to the bottom of the oil passage window.

Also the thickness of the pickup spacer.

It's 5/8" for the distance from the "floor" of the oilpan to the bottom of the oil passage window.

Assuming the pickup spacer is the black rubbery/plastic rectangular parts... thickness = 0.05". Apparently the material used here is the same of the type(manufacturer and product) Porsche sourced for the X51 pan. This material is apparently very hard to come by and was specified by FVD as it's known to work well and was proven on the x51 pan.

The oil pickup spacer is in the plastic bag & should be about 3/8" thick & have O-rings on each side. When you install the pan 1st you need to remove the stock pickup & clean any debris out of the screen. Next reinstall with the spacer between the engine & oil pickup using the longer bolts provided.

OK thanks, I was afraid it was the same part as the LN spacer that's only .25"

By the way you should mock assemble the pan & baffle in position on the engine to check for any interference 1st before applying silicone sealant to the pan for final assembly. Be sure to clean all mating surfaces 1st with isopropal alcohol. I like the Ultra Grey sealant for the oil pan. Torque bolts to 7.5 ft/lbs.

Very good... thanks. I like the idea of using Isopropyl alcohol. I was going to use Loctite 5900 to seal the pan per FVD. Seems similar to Permatex Ultra Grey.

Loctite 5900 is impossible to find locally. I tried Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, Sears, Home Depot, and Walmart. I did, however, locate a tube of Permatex Ultra Grey at AutoZone. Both 5900 and Ultra Grey are Oxime silicone based so I'm going to get a tube of the available Ultra Grey. Also seems that Ultra Grey will fully cure in 24 hrs vs. 1 wk for 5900... good to finish up the project sooner but I wonder if the slower curing 5900 is better somehow. If anyone know more about these sealants please chime in as sealants are not my area of expertise. TIA.
