whilst I agree that 997 might depreciate quicker then 993, i cannot get over the 996 comment. Come on, 996?

You didn't actually think your 911 was an investment...did you?

Honda Civic....hyperbole.

So your logic is to buy a car that was so undesirable that hardly any were made/sold?

While 993s depreciate slower than a 997, they certainly cost more for maintenance/repairs per mile driven. Over time, we're both "throwing" our money away at the same rate.

Nice turbo btw.

You sure about that? Any statistical data?

Ha, any 997 owners thinking they're immune from heavy depreciation similar to the 996 better be careful up on that high horse. It's all about the supply and demand, and there are plenty of 997s available and the prices seem to be dropping quickly, while 996 pricing seems to have already bottomed out.

I paid $33k for my '99 C4 about six years ago. Fast forward six model years to the early 997 cars and they're almost in the range...mid $30s for base cars is common and I'm even seeing a fair number of '05-06 C2S cars for upper thirties.

Your time is coming, and it's laughable to compare the 996 or 997 depreciation curve to the 993.

Glad the OP enjoyed the snow.

For me, I'd rather wait for better weather and the snow novelty wears off quickly for me. Call me egg coddler.

Depreciation hasn't been too bad for the 997 and is much better than most cars. Unit sales after 07 were way down due to the Great Recession, porsche sends less 911s now to the US, and 991 hasn't taken off yet for a variety of reasons.

It's not an investment but I don't think there is massive depreciation around the corner to fret about. And who here really cares about the 996?

Hey. Given than I am actually looking to buy a 997.2 sometime in the next six months and money does matter at the end of the day. In terms of % (or $) depreciation, do you think a same year and condition C4S or Turbo will do better over the next five years call it? Or wait for the 991 Turbo to come out for the 997 Turbo prices to drop? I would be perfectly happy with the C4S, but could step up to the Turbo if I find the right one for the right price. Seem the Turbos can be had for more % off original MSRP than the C4S, but obviously also cost more that have more to loose.

I had a '99 996 - one word: "GARBAGE". It made me sour enough to go to an E46 M3 'Vert, then came the 997 - Love it. All cars depreciate.

OP and others who drive in the winter: I lived in Minnesota for 16 and always drove mine in the frigid temps and snow as long as it wasn't deep

It's not laughable at all, you can compare any 2 car's depreciation curves. Why not? It's a fact not an opinion that 996 depreciated qucker then any 911. If you can't deal with that, then...whatever.
Btw your 996 in your avatar has reached it's peak in deperecition.

Also, I really do not care how my cars depreciate, I did not buy them as an investment.

Chill out lads.

if you're not driving the car hard enough to depreciate it, you're not enjoying it enough!
