One of the tips I can give (which is a little late for for Tommy and others) is that you will find that you are better off with leather finishes on the high traffic areas of the interior of these cars (e.g., the central console and certain dash parts) or resort to contacting our own Eric of Bumper Plugs fame and have him refinish your parts with a much more durable paint that either matches your interior or exterior. There is even the wood option, but few seem to have gone that route. (I put some wood inside mine, but felt that the central console needed to be softer both in the physical feel and in the looks department. Leather does that nicely.)

This is one of those lessons that is late to learn about the 996 and the 997--the slush finishes just look bad after 2-3 years and you are forced to do something about it down the road.

This is also true for those with the Adaptive Sport Seats--the silver plastic finish finish looks like crap in no time if you have little ones with dirty shoes--scrapping them up. Leather (pictured) may help ward off some of that better than paint.

TOm,

No, I do not have a painted console from Eric, but I have been to his shop in Charlotte, NC a few times, and each time I have seen different interior parts they have painted. Eric showed me a Speed Yellow console they had just painted for a client. It was beautiful. Eric will be able to match your Paint to Sample color.

I have no affiliation with Eric or Bumperplugs. I am just a very satisfied customer.

Dan,

I think I'm going to investigate the cost of doing the leather!

I think I'm going to keep this car forever....(I hope my forever is many moons from now) so a little investment in a car that gives me sooo much pleasure in return is worth it in my opinion and especially in the center console! I love yours with the Carrera script too.

I just called the Porsche dealer to ask about pricing....maybe they'll be kind during the Christmas Season! (yeah right!)

Thanks always Dan for your thoughts and your car which served as the blueprint for mine that I continue to marvel at every time I look at her!!

Merry Christmas to you and all who took the time to respond and especially to gsdpic who so skillfully photoshopped the BT console for me!!

As exorbitant as the leather would be, I think the result would be stunning, far less Bling.

Thanks Larry......I feel the same about it...I'd notice it every time I get in the car as I do with the dash and all the leather I have now!

Oh, BTW... the shifter console trim will run an additional $410 dressed in leather and a leather console lid will cost another $770

There's probably some psychological/economic aspect to this but that isn't very expensive if not having leather really bothers you - price elasticity I suppose. I can't quantify how much the plastic chromed headlight washers bothered me on my first 911. Totally irrational but that's all I could focus on whenever I looked at the car. On my GTS I willingly, and gladly paid ~$500, highway robbery when you consider the part, to get them PTS'ed.

Oh great...thanks Edgy01!
Your leather interior looks fantastic! I already have the "full leather" option, but it hadn't occurred to me to get the console and seat backs in leather. I'd pretty much decided to get both painted the exterior colour. After seeing your interior, I'm torn. More to ponder this winter.
