Default Good drive from San Diego

I just moved to San Diego. Does anyone know of any good drives in this area. I was thinking of taking the 8 out east and see what the mountains and desert are like......thanks.

And the road between Idylwilld and Palm Springs is nice too, especially at the Palm Springs end where it is very twisty.

Be careful with the drive to Julian, most car clubs take this drive and it is full of cops of weekends.

I used to drive my Ferrari 348TS up around Julian, and in particular the road between Julian and Warner Springs (which has some great straight line roads). Often saw CHP hiding there or stopping an unsuspecting driver.

Try I-15 north to 76, go east towards Palomar Mountain all the way to Lake Henshaw, then towards Borrego Springs. Great open country driving for motorcycles and sports cars. Just use your radar detector if you plan to drive REALLY fast.

The unfortunate part of living in Southern California is highly congested roads, even worse on weekends.

Palomar Mountain was one of my favorites. Ortega Hwy would have been great if the traffic wasn't so bad.

Enjoy!
