Electrostatic Touch-up Painting
I ran into a car detailer today at the dealership while waiting for my car to be serviced. He was touching up rock chips using -- what he referred to as -- an electrostatic paint tool. It looks similar to a brush, but instead of bristles, it appeared to have a metal point (similar to a ball point pen). Above the metal point was a very small repository for paint. He said the electrostatic charge of the car pulled the paint from the pen -- all that has to be done is to touch the metal point to the rock chip. He did about 10 rock chips in under a minute with no paint dribbles or splashes. It was done perfectly.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? He told me that nowhere sells them anymore....

I will admit to having used a Sharpie on my black Merc........not
the metal, but grill, bumper and other plastic parts......works well.....
the above technique sounds interesting.....
and might also be a good money maker
Sounds very fancy.
However, for the number of times a private owner is going to touch up stone chips,
it might not be cost effective. I like getting a small amount of paint on the tip of a toothpick and just dabbing the paint into the chip.
