1973 Triumph GT 6 Hard top. Drove it half way across the US in the heat of one summer. Your legs were right next to the motor and of course no air conditioning. Electrical system by Lucas didn't work very well. Was very fast and very fun. Wish I still had it. Sold when my first baby arrived in 1976. Don't see them anymore.

Circa 1985....
Yes, I started out in good old American Muscle, like some others here, and had many more after this one. But what you can't see are the take-off (from a then brand new Mustang GT) Goodyear Eagle Gatorback 225/60 VR15 tires. They were some of the grippiest tires available in those days, and in conjunction with the lowered ride height, and some parts from a later model WS6 Trans Am (front stabilizer bar, steering box), this car cornered better than almost everything else on the road back then - surprised a lot of people.

That's how I met her one day when I drove by in my MG Midget and stopped to tell her how much I loved her car. She was 19 (I told her I was also 19) and she wasn't bad either by any means. She also let me drive the Jaguar whenever we were together which was often. It was the best of both worlds, particularly when I didn't have to maintain the XKE. I was already broke trying to keep my MG running.

I love the XKE. That was my first Matchbox car. Then when I started driving, I had a summer girlfriend at the NJ Shore when I was 16 & 17 who had a British Racing Green XKE that her parents bought for her new.

You were fortunate as I never had the chance to drive one of those. In British Racing Green yet!
The best I did was an older woman (a few years only) when I was in my early twenties and she drove a relatively new Corvette. We spent our time at the Jersey Shore as well....she disappeared at the end of the Summer like the nice weather!

My first sports car was a 1968 Porsche 912 with a 4 speed gearbox. I bought it in 1981 when I was in college. When I graduated in 1984 I bought a 67 911S. I remember the 4 speed as a great gearbox, but the solex carbs were a pain. The 67S was great but but tended to foul the spark plugs (expensive platinum) if you didn't take it out and open it up. Since then, I've had a lot of different Porsches including a 1970 914. One of my favorites was an 02 C4S.

My first car was a 1970 Sunbeam Alpine GT. My dad worked for Chrylser and it was a demo. It was a great, fun car to have in high school, but was plagued with overheating. After the second engine blow, sold it and moved on to VW Bugs and Rabbits. Think I went thru about 18 of them before getting into BMW's. Always knew I'd end up with a Porsche though. I think anyone that really "got" VW bugs lusted for a Porsche!

My first car, in 1967, was a red, 1959 Triumph TR-3. I just about went broke getting the damn thing serviced seemingly all the time (clutch work, especially). Had it for 6 years and had to trade it in for a family car. I still get a mini-orgasm whenever I think of that car. :

hey this thread is nice..reminiscing .... my first sports car was a 1969 fiat 124 sports. it was a beauty. 5speed twin cam 1400 engine with a single downdraft weber carburetor. now i am smiling. it had veglia borletti instruments and i went fast. it was really a great car. it was a pass down from my grandfather. The color was something like mustard. i remember parking it in front of the hotel and restaurant manangement building during my college years and when i came out a group of girls were looking at it. hahahaha. it was really really a great car.

Slick Rick- Was that a Sport Coupe or Spider? I had a '74 Sport coupe in kind of a guava (the fruit) brownish paint. Lovely car, only problem is that it was a California car in San Francisco and it was subject to very stringent smog controls. The poor Italians (and they were not the only ones back then!) couldn't figure out how to make the car driveable. It was like a bucking bronco, especially driving a stick on those SF hills. Sadly had to get rid of it after about 6 months of frustration.
