Diminished value after accident? 2006 997S
#17
Kevin....if the damage is just on the plastic pieces then no big deal. That's an easy fix and should be easy to match the paint with today's technology. If the metal was damaged then find an excellent body repair man to do the repair so you can live with the car. You will definitely lose value. $5-10k The car will be easy to trade-in but harder to retail.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I just tried to attach images but couldn't figure it out. The estimate came in at $12k for repairs and the work is being done at the best body shop within a 50 mile radius. My original assumption was a $6k-$10k reduction in value, regardless of private sale or trade-in. I am working with his insurance company (Nationwide) and they have been great with paying for damages so far but I am struggling in getting them to send me the "paperwork" I will need to fill out to claim diminished value.

Fight hard. I was only able to be made whole by my Pcar dealer as I bought it from them CPO with a piece of paper from them that the car had never been in an accident. Otherwise I would have been out $5-7K

Also, keep records and picture of damage and repair. That may put a potential buyer's mind at ease. I was looking at a car earlier this year. Carfax said it had a non airbag rear ender. Price was right, so I was ok with that. PPI uncovered repaint in the door area. Without knowing exactly what happened I walked at that point.
Good luck!

if you got rear ended simple accident & want "diminished value" thats going overboard! This wont effect the value- When you sell the car just explain & keep all paper work and receipts thats it-
I hit a chair on FWY with my 996 & on auto check said "collided with guard rail" lol...but i had pics & receipts of repair & buyer didn't even haggle price once he saw this stuff

Take before and after pictures. Document everything and most people will know you aren't scamming them and selling them a turd. I had the same problem on an SUV I owned. I took pics and had the buyer call the body shop to verify the damage. Didn't hurt the sale value a single penny... Good luck....

looks not too bad. but I'm not an expert. the lower and top areas outside of the damage area look even, and impact didn't even break the right taillight. like there is just creasing

Sorry to see so much damage on your car. I hope there is no structural damage. Behind the obvious damage, there are heat shields and other components that need to be replaced with $$$$$ labor, ergo the high estimate you received.
The color matching technology today is amazing. They measure the color density of the rest of your car(how much has faded with age) and paint the new surface like the rest of the car instead of paint formula for a brand new car.
