Check engine oil

Check engine oil
997.2, just had the oil changed at 17k. Right after that, every few days, dashboard says check engine oil, And when I do, it's completely full.
Seems strange, was fine before the oil change........anyone have that same experience or thoughts?

My WAG is the oil change service timer or whatever was not reset and this is triggering the check engine oil message.
But as I mentioned above consult the car's owner manual. It might be a sign there's an oil level/temp sensor/sender error.

Or the oil was overfilled. Is the oil level over the top mark ?

sounds like it was overfilled. This happened to me once and the dealer just shrugged it off. I took it back and made them drain some out. Then, I found a better dealership.

It may be slightly over full with oil.
It happened to me when I first purchased my car then had it serviced before exporting. The engine needs to be up to temp before they pull the drain plug, or all the oil wont drain out. Then they add the required sum of new oil = slight overfill.
You may burn it off, or take it back to the dealer to drain the excess.
Mine registered a bar above the level line. When they drained a little out everything was fine. No more check lights.

I think not having a dip stick is a major design flaw OK maybe a minor design flaw but a flaw none the less. The dealers usually have a 16 year old changing your oil because why tie up an expensive mechanic. Filling a car with electronic oil measuring system takes trail and error it is a stupid system when a mechanical dip stick is so simple. They should have at least left the old dip stick as an added option. I would pay for one! Also I don't let the dealer near my car unless absolutely necessary. Change your own oil.

I would not wait for it to "burn off." Remove the oil filter and empty the canister and then put it back on. Depending how much it is overfilled, you may have to do it a second time.
If you are uncomfortable doing this, take it back to the dealer and have them drain 1/2 a quart.

Dangers of Overfilling
While it may not seem like a big deal to overfill the oil in your car, it can cause major malfunctions and potentially cost you thousands of dollars.
When too much engine oil fills the crankshaft in your car, the oil becomes aerated and is whipped into foam. This is caused by the high rotation of the crankshaft. Foamy oil cannot lubricate your car well, and in many cases it will cause oil flow to halt completely, overheating your oil and causing loss of oil pressure. The engine then becomes starved for lubrication and may potentially lock up.

Sounds like it may be overfilled. If that turns out to be the case I'd start not using the place you got your oil changed, if they cannot be bothered to do it correctly.
The safest process, drain it out for 30 mins, then put back in that amount, then top off in 1/2 quart increments until the line indicates just below the top mark (ie never all the way to 100% full)

Unless you have a flat-six with an oil sump and pressurized oil system. Over filling will cause a multitude of problems with the Porsche engine, so take the advice and drain some out.
