Default Protective film in door jamb

One thing I've noticed on my 997 (and my Cayman had it, too) is the little strip of protective film in the door jamb.. it has gotten discolored slightly and has a brown streak on it now. It looks like just a strip of clear bra material, or maybe its got an adhesive on the back. Anyone know?

I'm not sure what the purpose of it is. It seems to line up with the rubber seal from the door - maybe this is more of an anti-squeak thing?

I *think* I found the correct part in the catalog - 99653723700, but it's not totally clear as there is another similar part shown in the diagram that is also labeled "protective film"

It's a little hard to see in the photo because of lighting..

I suspect that Porsche found, over time, that the seals from the door abraded the paint. This is to protect the paint longer.

Mine also has a brown streak on that little piece of protective film. Not sure why it gets stained like this.

same. I thought maybe this was to stop squeaks. Looks crappy on mine. Anyone replace them, or figure out how to clean them?

I just checked and, as the OP said, the little bits of protective film are part 99653723700. They cost less than 4 bucks apiece.

For as much money as Rennlist members spend with Porsche collectively, there should be a live Q&A once a month with a long time engineer lol we need answers

You can effectively clean them (and many other things on the car) with P21S Multi Surface Finish Restorer

I have used this product on so many things on the 911. Metals, plastics, paint. Miracle product in my opinion... (No affiliation or connection with the manufacturer)

Amazon Amazon

Thanks. They clean up fine with a little lacquer thinner. The problem is that they have yellowed. Just gonna replace them since they cost just a few bucks.

Remove replace done... I agree that’s its to prevent the paint that is in that place from getting abraded.. the angle it hits the rubber weather strip will cause the rubber to rub every time the door is opened or closed..
