PasPar, We'll keep you in our prayers Bro! I just can't imagine what it feels like to just sit & watch as everything unfolds & feel so helpless to do anything about it! But, as long as you & the family are OK everything else will work itself out. Godspeed with getting everything cleaned up & Good Luck with you insurance!

I don't think banks consider insurance optional - try to get a mortgage or finance a car without insurance.

You should get KBB retail for your cars. Make sure you know what options you had so you get the full amount. You should also get sales tax.

I'm sorry for you. What a disaster. I hope the insurance companies come through for you (and everyone else).

Unless you have flood insurance they will hide behind that.

One of the reasons (little known) that the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 became a raging fire was because few Californians had earthquake insurance in 1906. Rather than be denied coverage, things magically caught on fire--and then their fire insurance covered it.

I'm surprised that hurricane insurance doesn't cover water damage. A hurricane is by definition a high wind that near water can change a shoreline.

BX wiring is old stuff. I bought a machine shop and all the lathes were wired with it. Older equipment. It looked like a fire hazard, so I replaced it all with modern wiring.

I am very sorry about the tragedy that you and the other many individuals are going through. We pay high premiums to these insurance companies with the understanding that they cover our losses when disaster hits us. It is very unfortunate that they somehow always have a way of abusing their clients. It is just like a very healthy individual who has purchased a comprehensive medical coverage then being denied for expenses incurred from an illness e.g. Plague, meningitis outbreak. It is not right...

This is the code in NYC. Romex is not allowed anywhere.

Sorry for your losses. At least you seem to be getting some responses from your insurance agent/Geico. Hope your family is coping as well as you seem to be in this thread.

I would most certainly disconnect the battery - insurance will total submerged car regardless of that and you get the same buyback offer. With no power going through the car, it would've been possible to salvage it - literally just hose it down with distilled water and wash all the salt out.

Did you get your money back at least? Also any buyback offers?

I will not buy it back even if offered. I had a full light show while it was drowning - this car will never be trouble free...

Sorry for your loss. Glad GEICO has attempted to right your wrong/loss. Hopefully your housing situation will still get sorted out favorably. If we can do anything or contribute to help those Rennlisters who lost property and livelihoods please post relevant links! Godspeed.

A month passed since the storm... had power for 10 days and heat/hot water for 7... Wifey has a new car and a some new appliances. I have .... a new HVAC system. picked up some tools on black friday so I can get stuff done around the house. walls are still open to above flood lines to let things dry. its been COLD and we have no insulation on 1/3 of our walls - so my boiler is getting some exercise.

regarding replacing my 997 - the good news, prices are noticeably lower than I recall from shopping back in early 2012. the bad news - there are no cars on any of the sites i went on that appeal to me.

I have one key, a pair of original mufflers and the air box from my 997.1S - if anyone is interested PM me.
