High Mileage 997 Okay?

Germans laugh at Americans' reluctance to drive their cars. A properly maintained 120k mile car may be better than an idling garage queen with 5k miles with seeping seals due to lack of use.

Nice write ups! Thanks.
I just received ALL of the service records for this car. The car was brought to the Porsche dealer for EVERY service for it's entire life. Everything was done and on time. Coils plugs and AOS as well as brakes and tires.
I am aware of all the things that could go wrong with these cars. Of course my biggest concern was the IMS/RMS. Since this car was driven daily, I think my concern about IMS is diminished, correct? I'll still have these items addressed in the PPI.
Is there anything else I should be looking for or concerned about?

+1 with that. As an FYI, I spent ~$1K in parts to replace coils, plugs, air and cabin filters, oil filters, water pump, battery, s-belt... plus flushing fluids - brakes, coolant, oil, etc. All done near the 50K mile mark. I would expect to do a similar list of DIY's plus a few more items on a 120k mile car minus, of course, what the PO service records illustrate. Perhaps review this DIY sticky... it should help you to access how much is involved although it may not cover everything required for this particular vehicle.

That great... also get a DME report to see if it has over rev's in bands 3-6? BTW, what yr is the car? we need this to comment on IMS. And is this a coupe, S, targa, cab, etc? Transmission fluid(MT or Tip) should have been flushed at 108K miles if it's an '08 997.1. Emergency tire sealant should be replaced at 4 yrs. Perhaps get a membership to Renntech.org if you want to do more technical research. Other than that GL and keep us all posted on your findings. I'm at 54.5K miles right now so would be interesting to see how these cars fair with 120K+ miles.

I can't believe some of you guys are telling him to avoid this car - 120,000 miles? Big deal. My first 911 (1980) had 154,000 miles on it and no records for the first 18 years of its life. It needed a new clutch but the rest of the PPI went well. I bought it, replaced the clutch and various other items over the years (not that they were needed, I just felt they were "old") and drove it for nine years. One of the most reliable cars I've ever owned and I regret selling it everyday.
It sounds like a well maintained, great car - buy it!

Congrats! Keep us posted on how she fairs. Would be great if you could share what items were serviced in the life of the car. With 120k miles on the clock this car may be one of the leading indicator of what to expect in terms of maintenance for the 997.

Here she is:
2005 Carerra, 117K miles, single owner, every scheduled service at a Porsche dealer from birth, all original paint, clean carfax, PPI says everything works as it should including clutch, no leaks, no metal in oil filter. I am a dealer so I paid wholesale for the car.
I did the suncoast Vin decode:
HTD seats
19" rims
Sport Chrono plus
Nav
Bose
CDC 4 changer
Adaptive sport seats
Bi-Xenon lights
PSM
PAS
Sunroof

Nice looking car congrats. Do you mind letting us know what the dealer wholesale price was?

Nice looking car. I just bought a 2005 997S with 71,000 miles. Other than a repaint on the front bumper the exterior looked mint. The car was a one owner car with all records. No significant failures noted in the records. The car has about $8000 in options including the sports seats and Chrono. I originally was looking for a 20 to 30K mile car, but the price was about $45K for an S. Buying the 71K car gave me $8000 to work with for maintenance for a couple of years. As you can see from my postings I am new at this so I haven't figured how to attach a picture yet. When I figure it out I will post one.
