Also the DFI engine sound and 997.1 engine sound (to me at least) are noticeably different. You can see a lot of 997.2 owners not satisfied with just the Gundo.

I was debating the same thing for a while. Went with Tubi a couple months ago and have no regrets at all. I only wished I had done it earlier. Love the sound. I've not heard the gundo hack, but have heared PSE and wasn't a big fan.

Why don't you try Gundo first to see if you like the sound since it won't cost a lot. You can always go with Tubi later if you are not happy with it. But I am pretty sure you will like it. Go with 2" SS pipe. It makes pretty incredible sound.

How much does the gundo cost?
Assume you do the cross pipe as well, since most will.
Cross pipe is around $900, I think, so how much are you paying to get the gundo done?
Are you buying spare side mufflers so you can knock it out and not go in twice or wait a couple weeks with the car out of service?

Gundo cost me $250. Got it done in about 3 hours.

Fister mod was $265 for me, one can install it themself..but I had mine done +$100 labor in 2.5 hrs.

Darin has some he can do an exchange and may send you, if you are not local then your can may be out for a few days while the muffler is enroute.

I paid $250 to get Gundo done at a custom exhaust shop in Maryland. They took out the cans, did the hack and put them back on in 3 hours.

I don't need to do the gundo, as I have Tubi on my car.
I was curious as to the value equation, assuming everybody gets an acceptable sound out of the hack, removing the center silencer and replacing that with a cross pipe of some sort.
Seems like most of you paid around $250 for the hack work, plus $900 or so for the cross pipe. Leaving labor out of it, somewhere around $1200 or so?

No need to even touch the cross pipe on a 997.1. When owners say they've done the gundo it has nothing to do with the cross pipe. $250 is inclusive of parts AND labor for the modification of the mufflers. Compared to around $3k installed for a set of new Tubis. That was the exact same math that I went through.

Pulled the cans myself. Gundo hack job at muffler shop was $150. Car was back on the road that afternoon. Picked up Sharkwerks bypass from an ad here for $620 shipped. I'm at $770.

Tubi for my car is listed at $3440. http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=107

I'm okay with my decision.

I have the Gundo from Darrin on my 997.1 and I love it but is there a way to get it a tad louder? If you haven't done the hack, do it now from Darrin. You need a set of ramps, a 13mm wrench and 13 mm socket. Takes 15 minutes per side to swap them yourself.

I've personally heard a Gundo-hack and the original PSE back to back, and have to say the they still sound a bit different. Is there a reason for this?

I did the Gundo and it sounds great, but I'm a little concerned that it may create back pressure which could affect the valves. Can anyone verify it doesn't do any harm to the engine?

Gundo hack has been around for more than 5 years if I am not mistaken. I haven't seen anyone reporting engine problems related to the hack.
