Default Ipod streams data but no sound

We are having a strange issue with the ipod.

It usually works no problem, but recently we have had issues where the display would show the song info, but no sound would come out of the speakers.

The first time I noticed was after a 3 hour drive, and I parked the car for a few hours. It did not want to work for the rest of the day.
While it is not working, the PCM will display all the song information.

Next morning, the ipod works fine.
Drive to work, and park the car, and the Ipod will not work when restarted.

Next day, fine again.

The 997.2 has the 1.44 version in the pcm
the ipod has the current firmware from apple.

Any ideas?

Maybe your connection hook up cable, on mine I had one speaker not working on Ipod mode , speaker worked fine with radio, noticed cable end that one small pin was bent and not making the connection required , new cable under warranty, then everything works fine.
Hope this helps

I tried the "wiggle test", both when was working or not working.
No effect on performance.

I have the same problem on my iPhone 4. Sometimes disconnecting and then reconnecting works. Don't know why yet.

It seems that the current version of the PCM firmware is 1.47

We will get the update, and see if that fixes it.

You have to bring the car into the dealer to install the update.

In this case, the "Ipod" stops working after a period of extended use.
You can see what song is playing on the display, but there is no sound.
Switch to AM or FM, and the sound is there.

The next day, the "Ipod" is fine.

I was having some what of the same problem in my 2012 Cayenne S. The iPod had been working just fine. After a short stop when I restarted the engine the iPod would display the song on the PCM, but there was no sound coming out of the Cayenne's speakers. When I disconnected the iPod from the Cayenne, I could get it to play correctly and could hear the sound from the iPod. I installed a different iPod and it worked fine in the Cayenne. I then did a hard reset of the Cayenne's original iPod by pressing the Menu and center button simultaneously until the Apple logo appeared. After the iPod rebooted, I reinstalled in in the Cayenne and now it plays properly. Seems that somehow the output on the iPod's connector had become corrupted but by resetting the iPod it cleared up the problem.

Further research has shown that the iPod is a piece of junk.

Apparently, it was going through it's death throws, and working intermittently.

All efforts to resurrect it. (button trick and reformat) were useless.

However,
It looks like a thumb drive will do everything that I used the iPod for.
