Default Cost for Tire Pressure Monitors

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System in my 2006 C4S has begun to behave erratically, and the dealer says the monitor batteries are beginning to fail. This seems entirely reasonable, given the 5 year monitor battery life expectancy. However, the dealer wants $1000 to replace all four tire monitors or "only" $800 if I wait for my next set of four tires. Seems a little steep to me. Is this a typical price?

These are about $400-500 for the parts online, and then $20-40 per wheel to fit them, give or take.

The issue may be labor related. Some experienced techs can simply deflate the rubber while it's on the balancer, push back to get to the sensor, and replace it with tire intact. I've seen this done.

Others will take the rubber off the wheel entirely, remove/replace sensor, remount, rebalance.

By doing the first step correctly, if it can be done, you don't need to rebalance unless your rubber is worn significantly enough from the last balance.

But Island is right, under $500 for parts, then time for install.

I held off until the next full set. It did add about $900 to the price but it was worth it to get rid of the error messages.

Guys--try and do a search before you post so this stuff doesn't have to be repeated over and over again.

Considering how slow this board is sometimes, I don't mind rehashed topics so much. If we only posted new material it would be a very boring place indeed.
