Default Partial drop engine 997 C2

Hi all,
I have been trying to find a DIY guide to partially drop the ingine of my 997 C2 (2005) as I want to give the engine a good clean from the inside.

I am sure I saw once a guide with good photos but could not find it again.
Is there anyone who could point me to such a guide?

thanks

Hi all,
reading some material around I found the following:

1. put the vehicle on jack stands
2. remove airbox
3. using an hydraulic jack, raise a "platform" to sustain the engine from the bottom
4. unscrew the engine motor mounts and remove them

Now I should be able to slowly lower the jack (item 3 above) and the engine should drop about few inches, right?

Here are my doubts:
a) How would I know how much I can lower the engine without causing damage? I mean, what happens if I lower it too much? Will I break something?
Or does it stop dropping?

b) a part from the airbox, is there any other item I should remove (hose, pipe, electrical connectors) to avoid breaking it because of stretching while the engine is partially dropped?

thanks

grrr....
i would REALLY suggest you get a copy of 997 workshop manual prior to dealing with it, especially if an airbox removal step causes questions.

'partial drop' is a drop. if you want to just replace engine mounts - it is not a 'drop'. you can roll rear end of your car on ramps, then support engine from below with a jack (be careful where you position jack!) then you have a bit of a movement there - up to 3 inches may be. search here for wevo mounts DIY install.

if you want to drop off motor you need to disconnect and remove a lot of stuff, it is a work where you need proper lift and special support for engine that will receive it when you 'drop' it. also you first need to drop off gearbox before you drop off motor.

all in all you need workshop manual. search around, it used to be a guy on 6speed forum who had in on a download.

ok. Sorry. You are right.
Let me explain the reason for this "partial drop".
Maybe the term "partial drop" is not even correct...

I need to get a little more space in the engine compartment, and 3 to 4 inches are enough.

My question is: if I remove the engine mounts, what happens? the engine just drops to the floor stretching all the cables, pipes with it and breaking everything? Or it just stops dropping after 3 to 4 inches?
In case, how would I tell that I have reached the maximum drop before breaking anything?

thanks

I have the 2005 Manual with step by step instructions. If you give me you email address I'll send it to you. I'm trying to figure out how to use a file sharing web site.

i would not try to remove both engine mounts at once unless you dropped of gearbox and have a receiver for an engine if it goes down.
there is a bar that may be enough to stop motor but you will stretch a lot of stuff and, again, i would follow workshop manual for procedures like this one. you should be fine if you lower engine for full lenght of an engine mount bolt when you start undoing the nut but, you will need to be careful, that`s all.

Yes, of course I wouldn't just remove the mounts...
I just wanted to know what would happen "IF" I removed the mounts.

I will search for the workshop manual.

But, if I put a jack under the engine and then I remove the engine mounts can I lower the jack 3/4 inches without causing damages?
