Default 997.2 Dealer Inventory Sucks!

I'm in the market for a 2009 CPO 997.2 w/PDK. I have been to three different P-Dealers in L.A./Orange County and have been disappointed. They all boast that these are lease returns, but everyone of them has swirls marks on the paint, noticeable scratches from 10 feet away, baked water spots on the paint and road rash on the nose. I realize these are not new cars, but I would expect a P-Dealer to have these in mint condition before putting them on display. Of course, each dealer told me they would detail them before I bought them.

Am I being too picky? I come from the Corvette world where most owners keep their cars in mint condition. Also, C6's you see on dealers lots are clean. My 2011 C6 is mint and it is a DD with 1,200 miles per month. I just don't understand why these P-cars aren't. Any input?

simple paint correction should take care of all that

stealership might be too cheap to have the job done - likely a $400 job

Many 911 leases are daily drivers so the cars are used. buy private party and buy a warranty.

The paint Porsche uses is really soft. The downside is swirl marks, but the upside is easy correction.

There's also something about the nose that just attracts rocks. By much yu can do about this besides live with it or get a clear bra.

I don't think your being too picky for a $65k+ car, but it's just the way it is. The dealers must feel they don't need to fix that stuff to move cars.

Thanks for the info. guys. I will just take my time to find the right one. I have a clear bra on my C6 and use a Speed Lingerie Bra for long road trips. I'm one of those guys who is constantly dusting their car off every other day and use detail spray once a week. I expect to treat my C2 the same way.

Take your time.

Expand your search to cities that are reasonable travel distance for you.

They may have had a cut-polish performed. It's fast but poor quality. My detail guys won't do them.

What specifically are you looking for? S? Non-S? Coupe? Color(s)?

Looking for 2009 C2 w/PDK, SC, Coupe at minimum. A "S" model is out of my budget. My choice in colors are Gray, Black, or White. Also, it must be CPO and under 35,000 miles.

Would hauling a broken pool pump be out of the question?

Check out Livermore Porsche in N Cal. I noticed they had several 09s on Craigslist at reasonable prices. ~^5k for an 09 Cab for example IIRC

I ran into the exact same problem you're finding when I was shopping a couple of months back. I ended up buying a brand new 2012 997 S. I just couldn't see the wisdom in buying a "flawed" car for a few grand less than a brand new one- that was absolutely crazy discounted ($24k+). But I had to settle for a 6 speed.... Turns out I really enjoy it- plus my wife doesn't drive it!

Good luck with your search!

Yes, Livermore has several 09s. All but one are PDK, Several in black. Think most are lacking SC and most appear to be auction buys. I have not looked at them in person to judge appearance. Just read that you can add SC. When I make this move next year that's the route I may have to go if there is still a lack of SC cars out there. PSE cars are even harder to find but I would just do a Fister mod.

Don't worry about the SC. I don't have it and it's no big deal. You can add it later with a part from Suncoast if you really want. You just won't have the dash wart. There's a lot of nice cars out there but you have to look. I just found an 2009 C4S with 5000 miles. A Dr. Owned it in the city, never drove it much, etc... It smells and looks like new.
Rennlisters have nice cars that come up for sale too. A year back there was a beautiful C blue over grey/black full leather coupe. Stunning, enthusiast driver and cared for, and had great options. I still regret not nabbing it! He couldn't sell so it went to a dealer in OR. What a shame.
So with some patience, you'll find something REALLY nice. They're out there.
