Open the engine lid or let the fans kick in?

Put me down on the side that says let the fans work, leave the lid closed.
I have not read all posts so pardon if this is a repeat of what someone else posted.
The fans drive the hot air down and out from the engine compartment.
This is for a very good reason: The hottest parts are the exhaust hardware and these are the bottom of the engine/engine compartment.
If the lid is opened, the hotter air rises and "bakes" the cooler engine parts, the wiring and hoses mainly, which are more affected by higher temps.
Let the fans blow this hot air away from those critical wiring/hoses as the good engineers at Porsche intended.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I park in the garage. Open the rear lid on the Turbo, the Boxster stays closed, and then turn this fan on (about $100 at Grainger), placed by the front of the car. I try to leave the garage door open for a little while too.

I open the rear lid to release the hot air! The fan is there to cool off the engine because most car drivers are not going to remember to leave there engine lids open, outside or in there garages. I look at it as a safety precaution by Porsche.
Releasing the hot air sooner vs leaving the hot air in the compartment too me makes more sence. It most likely is all psychological but it makes me feel better.
I beleive the engine cools faster when the lid is open!

I actually bought a lift and engine stand so after each long drive I can drop the engine out of the car and let it cool separately from the rest of the car's components. Makes a big difference and only takes a few hours on each end of a drive!
Couldn't resist.

Thanks, I couldn't bring myself to write this ^. Reminds me of discussions we had in Grad School - interesting topics, useful in helping us shape our thinking, but ultimately pedantic and without much scientific value-add. (To wit, it may or may not be efficacious to open the lid, plenty of arguments either way - but has anyone ever encountered engine problems, or is there any documentation, from excessive heat build-up?)
