Mobile 1 to Pennzoil

Looks like it can be ordered online from:

Cheaper than the Pennzoil if you have Amazon Prime since shipping is free. I have no reason to switch from Mobil 1, but I'd also have no issues running full synthetic Pennzoil or Castrol if I had to.

Just for comparison, here is the price for Mobil 1 0W-40 on Amazon:

My local Wal-Mart has Mobil for $6.47 per quart or $38.82 for a case of 6 versus the Amazon price of $51.70 ($8.62 per quart). Not sure what CA pricing is though.

Honestly, I don't shop at Wal Mart so it's possible they have it cheaper, though prices are higher here in CA generally, I suspect. Local Kragen, for example, prices Mobil 1 around $8.00 but it's hit and miss as to whether they have 0W-40. Also, I pay no sales tax with Amazon and the stuff is delivered to my door for free, so in the end the pricing is not that far off and way more convenient in my case.
That is a great price at Wal Mart, however.

I've looked at the Mobil Delvac 75W90 gear lube on my garge storage shelves during the winter months, and even that stuff looks pretty "splashy" in the extreme cold of Chicago.

FYI, gear oils use a different rating system that is related to their particular application. I don't recall the exact conversion but in terms of weight a 75-90W gear oil would be in the 10-20W motor oil range in terms of cold weather flow.

I believe that Castrol uses Shell base oils for their products, I believe....
Keep in mind that it is base oil AND additive package that determine overall quality of any given motor oil.
If I Lived in Southern US (TX, FL, CA, etc.) I would use 10W-40 (A few choices come to my mind) oil in winter and summer, just drive your car gently until fully warmed up. No need to bother with 0W-40 at all.
As an example Redline uses no VI's in their 10W-40 engine oil. None at all. The base oil is enough to get them to 10W-40 spread. However both Redline 0W-40 and 5W-40 oils do contain some quantity of VI's.
This info has been confirmed with Redline support.
My two cents.
