Default False alarms with crying infant - coincidence?

In my 22 years of driving, I can probably count on one hand the number of times my car alarm has been mistakenly triggered. Never really happens.

Today, my '06 C2S's alarm went off in my garage twice within 10 minutes. I've had the car for 3 months with no issues until today.

The strange part is that my 3-month old little boy was having a conniption at the time - really screaming his head off - near the garage, for BOTH false alarms. Cry - alarm - soothe. Cry - alarm - soothe. After we calmed him down for good, there were no other alarm issues.

Is it possible that his screaming could have set off the alarm??? That doesn't seem right to me, but I'm trying to figure out what could have caused the alarms. After the first incident, I went out to the car to see if there was maybe a large fly trapped in there that may have set off the motion detector. Nothing.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I'd be willing to bet that your car's battery is going. Is it the original battery? The electrical systems tend to go wonky when the battery starts to go.

Other than an interior motion detector, the OEM alarm is just an intrusion alarm - it doesn't pick up noises or movement of the car.

Car was CPO'd 3 months ago and included a new battery. I saw the old battery, so I know this battery is at least "different" if not brand new. I hope the dealership didn't swap in some other used battery! That would be extremely uncool.

I'd assumed the alarm didn't react to vibration, but it was just too weird a coincidence... It's been about 18 hours now and there've been no other false alarms.

Very strange.

It's obvious that your boy and the car are conspiring to get a ride together. Strap him in and go for a spin!

Try connecting it to a trickle charger... that should eliminate the battery/lack of voltage as the potential issue.

Try disarming the interior sensor: click to lock car, immediately press lock button again, taillight will flash to indicate sensor is disarmed. I have to do this or wind will sometimes set alarm off. Now get him to go off and see if the alarm follows. I remember one thread where motorcycle engine in garage triggered posters alarm. Stranger things have happened.

Thanks all. I'll try these tests if the alarm goes off again. But for now, no news is good news. Still no false alarms since these two events. I'll update this thread if the problem resurfaces.

I don't know about the phantom car alarm, but you will be surprised how door-to-door solicitors who ignored your house for years seem to suddenly know when the infant is sleeping.

Well I know my battery is topped up because I had it on a trickle charger all last week while I was away. And at the time when the alarm was tripping with the baby the battery was only a few months old.

The problem hasn't resurfaced since that one day, so I'm inclined to just chalk it up to crazy coincidence. I don't really feel like running experiments with a bawling baby.
