Default where are the high mileage 997?

On my quest to search for my Porsche, I see many low mileage 997 listed out there, only a few pass 60k.
Where are the 997 that pass 100k??
Do they all went into the junk yard because it cost more to fix than the value
of the car?
Even for 996, there are just a few over 100k (only in 100k-130k).

Should I expect the porsche engine/transmission to last ove 150k without
major rebuild?

I am looking at a 997 with close to 70k mile on it, and I will use it as a DD,
roughly 20k a year. Will this 997 only last for 1-2 years for me??

I hope it will give me 5 yrs, it will have around 150k - 170k on it by then...

what kind of major expense should I be prepare for?

To be safe, you should prepare for a complete engine replacement for any 996 or 997 through model year 2008 - regardless of mileage.

My sense is that most 997 with higher mileages are with owners who probably committed to driving/owning it for the longer term and hence limited in the market place. Owners who save the mileage or not committed for the long terms are probably not driving as much and listing their cars more often since the wisdom is to buy the newest and best conditions and best condition is probably defined, in many people's minds, fewer miles.....

They're out there. A recent RL member just purchased a 997.1 with 120K miles on it. I have 52K miles on my '08 and I expect to get at least 150K-200K miles as these cars are solidly built. BTW, a few other RL members have noted that Porsche collaborated with Toyota to improve their manufacturing and quality control processes during the 2000 years... I can buy that as Porsche started showing up at the top 1-2 JD Powers position along with Lexus starting in the mid-2000's. Maintain your car well and you should be able to get another 100K miles out of it. IMS seems to be the biggest scare especially if you read too many of these threads on the internet. You're more likely to be a victim of violent crime yet we still leave the security of our homes everyday. Just do frequent oil changes to be on the safe side...

sold my 996 with 167,000 miles. DD car loved it. Now my 997 has 75,000. looking forward to another 100,000 miles!
Owners with high mileage just enjoy the cars and drive them. We know the buyer's perception in regards with anything with more than 60,000 miles. Now, owners of '05-'06 997 with less than 30,000 are just garage queens and they don't want a take the hit, so they sell them instead of driving them... what a shame!

I reckon a majority of people who can afford a new Porsche fall into two categories: those who trade cars frequently, and those who own multiple vehicles of which the Porsche is more of a "toy" than a daily driver. So one-owner Porsches tend to have much lower than average mileage.

Second-owner Porsches start out at under-average mileage, and tend to be still quite expensive. Rather more of them are used daily, but still a sizeable proportion are weekend cars.

The fact that so many low-mileage cars are available makes selling a high-mileage car more of a challenge, thus there's more of a compelling reason for an owner not to pour on the miles if he's got the choice.

The air-cooled engines followed the traditional German philosophy of over-building. Since Porsche's forced paradigm shift in the late 90s, that no longer holds true. (This applies to Mercedes as well). That is not to say an M96-based Porsche engine can't last 150K or more. No doubt many of them do and will. But expecting it to is, I think, a bit optimistic. Rejoice if it happens, but don't be too off-put if it doesn't.

roughly 20k a year.
Someone such as yourself who drives well above the national yearly average might be better served in the long-run by paying more at the outset for a low-mileage car.

And remember, mechanical repairs aside, rear tyres on a 997 will last you 10-14K miles at best and cost $700 for 2; you may expect around 24-26mpg in 65-mph steady hwy driving (less if you run it up at 80) but 14-16 in mixed urban/suburban driving, with premium unleaded. I use my 997 as a DD, but I only drive 6-7K/yr.

And so is divorce... yet many of us take the leap of faith. I'll confess it's been a struggle to make it to the 25th anniversary but we just keep working on it one blow up at a time. You could say marriage is kinda like a car... if you knew everything wrong, imperfect, or potentially an issue... would you really want to ever own a car or get married? Just enjoy life already, get the 911 and drive the **** out of it with your better half. Not doing so would be the real tragedy in life.

Are they using the rotary engines from Mazda?

Don't take that queer comment to seriously.

Just a 964 owner trolling in the 997 forum! He's just having fun perpetuating internet fear mongering.

I second that opinion. I believe the formal psychological definition is "Radiator Envy."
