Default 997.1 Halogen to Bi-Xenon conversion.

I have a 2008 997.1 Carrera that came with base halogen headlights. I'd love to convert these to bi-xenons. Does anyone know what are my options? Can I simply pick up a factory bi-xenon headlight assembly (including ballast, etc) and replace the halogen assembly? Any other changes necessary?

Thanks.

1000 bucks for each headlight assembly not including installation.

I tried non OEM units which worked for about 4 years. Subsequently they failed and the surrounds made of plastic melted and I got leakage and error messages. I would recommend not doing what I did although the cost was less than half for installation of them and I eventually went back to stock Halogens.

Search over at renntech.org and planet-9.com

You can do the conversion, but you will loose the self leveling function.

Thanks for the replies.

Attached are the Halogen and Bi-Xenon hadlight breakdowns. I like to use as stock as possible. From the attached diagrams, everything pretty much the same except the headlight housings. There is a big price difference between them. I wonder if I use my halogen headlight unit and install the parts from the bi-xenon unit?

First Diagram: Halogen
Part-1 99763116423 headlamp Right $591.44

Second Diagram: Bi-Xenon
Prt-11 99763115823 headlamp Right $1404.80

Go to dealer and avoid looking for cheaper alternatives. My 997.2 was ordered with the xenon but I had halogen on my Cayman. What a difference. Well worth the cost.

I am interested in what you find out. I was told by the dealer that the wiring harness in the car was different, making the retrofit not realistically possible.

From my experience with bi-xenons on my M3 and VW Touareg, bi-xenons have the hi-low controlled by mechanical shutter. Same bulb, same light intensity. Only the shutter limits upper edges of the light when in low mode. If you pull the lever for high beam, then the halogen bulb takes over. But that is momentary (flash to pass).

I am trying to figure this thing out. Wish I knew someone with 997.1 with bi-xenons so they can check the interface between the harness and the housing.
