Default 997 GTS new purchase - my first post

Greetings. As a first time poster, hopefully I'll figure out how to post pics and I will soon. I picked up a riviera blue 997 GTS CPE today, optioned perfectly and I couldn't be more pleased with the long haul from Walter's Porsche to Santa Monica. I had a '06 C4S in the same color and I always felt like it was the one that 'got away'. That being said, the 997.2 GTS seems to be light years ahead of my previous wide body with 2 wheel drive, which seems to make it a whole lot more agile and capable, Xtra power and blah blah blah, (meaning all the advancements from 6 years ago's 997). I had an orange GT3RS for a few years back in '07 - '08 and I miss that ride too. The GTS hauls *** and feels like a cross between the GT3RS and my old Riviera blue 4S. The GTS's clutch feels light as a feather, (my only slight beef), I'm sure a RS single mass flywheel could remedy my desire for a firmer clutch which sheds rpm's a bit more efficiently (any thoughts anyone?). All in all, I dig it. BTW - I also recently took a 991S on a spirited jaunt (I'm not sure if the salesman will ever test drive anyone again), and that too was a terrific ride but only over 80mph and when tossing it around, however, at less challenged speeds, I was a little bored. Bitchin' car too and I do not understand folks who do not 'get it'. That being said, as last and best 997 in Riv. Blue too, I couldn't pass it up and the deal was pretty smokin' too which helped the decision. I also need to thank my wife, who in a momentary lapse of control, blessed me dumping the Cayenne S for a 911, which has been my car for decades and where I belong.. What is the deal with Cayenne's anyway - it is a truck! Thanks wife! Needless to say, I feel home again. Thanks for listening. DW

Congratulations David!

I'm a Walter's customer as well, and I've been admiring your car since they got it in. Walter's has a tendency to order cars in less-common colors, and yours looks terrific. I'm afraid my GTS is a much more mundane white.

I share your thoughts about the 991. Walter's gave me a 991S for a loaner for two days while my GTS was in for service. I don't understand the haters, it's a great car. But I do agree it's a little more "cruiser" and a little less "sports" than the GTS. I have no doubt I'll have a 991 eventually, maybe a GT3 or (if they make one) a GTS. But for now I'm happy as can be with my GTS. I absolutely love the Alcantara interior and I don't think I'd get a 991 with leather seats. I'll probably have to wait for the GTS or GT3 to get the interior I want.

Welcome and enjoy the new beauty.

Interesting. I'm looking at GTS's and like the look of the leather interior but have never driven an Alcantara. Thanks for your insight. Do you have a Cab or coupe? I spotted a new Riviera Blue C4S GTS cab the other day... up in the low 130k range...

That's awesome - especially for your first P-car.

We might have a few Riviera interior goodies if you are interested...email me

Mine is a coupe. I have the adaptive sport seats with alcantara inserts, as well as the alcantara steering wheel. I live inland of LA, where it gets HOT in the summer. I can't count the times I've singed myself on the leather seat or steering wheel of other cars I've had - no such problems with this one. It doesn't get as hot in summer nor as cold in winter. Driving aggressively (lots of track days) I don't slide around as much as I do on a leather seat and, frankly, I just love the way the wheel feels in my hands.

Some people worry that the alcantara will mat down with age and won't hold up well. I seldom keep a car more than a couple of years, so I just don't see that as any problem at all. If I was going to keep it for a decade, well then...

That color (Riviera) looks vaguely familiar. Welcome to the Uncommon Blue Club.
