Came back pretty solid. Tires are at about 30%, which is not much life on the rears and rear shocks are starting to leak a bit. I was trying to find price info, but wasn't real successful. I'm guessing around $2k for shocks? The car has had a fender bender. Repair seems to be good.
I haven't seen the car, nor do I have an opportunity to do so. I have a deposit down at $54k, which seems like a decent price, but I'm still not willing to get hit with an extra $3k in the next couple of months.
No. I went with recommendations from here to have a PPI at Eurocar Werk in Houston, and while they did give me a thorough report, they didn't have a scanner to do a DME.

That would be a roll of the dice w/o a DME. If, for example, there are significant over revs especially in Ranges 4-6 then you risk the following:
- if the revs occurred recently then you may be looking at a potential for serious engine issues. A complete engine replacement is ~$20K+
- Porsche may not honor engine replacement/service if it's still under warranty and/or CPO
- should you wish to resell it at a later date... the next buyer may not except a bad DME report/high revs. This was something I considered when purchasing my '08 C2S last year even though it was under warranty and CPO.
Of course, if the DME is good then you have nothing to worry about re this particular issue. Besides this issue I think the closer you get this car towards the low 50K price range the better it looks... and does seem to be a nice example of a cab '08 C2S baring some of the other noted issues. I'm also biased towards guards red. GLW the search.
Well, there not budging anymore on price, so is it still worth it. It is a good price, but add in shipping, tires in a month, and possibly shocks....
So on the DME thing, I mulled that over and yes it's a nice piece of info to have, but I've never had that info with any sports car I've bought in the past and not worried about it. Also, I'm figuring that as a cab it likely hasn't seen any track time, so it's a little safer. Not that you can't do a money shift on the street.
As to the old adage "there are lots of good ones out there" - not so much when you remove silver, black, white from the equation.
Or purchase your own Durametric tool for ~270 so you can get your own DME before you close the deal. There's a reason why the PO had to unload this one at a non-Porsche dealership. Use caution especially since it is out of warranty.
Well, one possibility would be that he bought a BMW. Car's in Houston, I'm in NY. Going on vacation on Tue. I need to make up my mind today and then just roll with it. Feeling under pressure and frustrated. Maybe go to plan B and get a 993 for a year or 2. The only saving grace is that I haven't sold my Z4, otherwise the need to have a ragtop RIGHT NOW would be overwhelming.
So tires that are shot, prior accident, leaking rear shocks, no DME (I understand we did this for decades w/o but now that it is available....) and they are not budging on price. I say walk. If it is still there when you come back from vacation approach them again and tell them you want 4 new tires and a credit for 50% of the rear shocks.

That sounds like a stress free plan to me. Enjoy your vacation and if it's gone when you get back, then it wasn't meant to be.
