16.8 gallons of gas?
I know the tank was pretty low (I fill it up every 4 days), but how did I manage to get 16.8 gallons in it? I've previously put in 16.6 also. Isn't it a 15.9 gallon tank?

My friend told me a story about a Porsche owner filling up his car in Houston a couple of months ago. He put in more than he thought the tank could hold and was having a heated discussion with the petrol station attendant accusing them of using meters that overread. Talk about letting the side down!

Only a fool would run the gasoline that low in a $100K automobile then run into the station and bitch out an attendant supposing that someone was lifting a buck from his wallet.

About 90 miles +/- daily, 23k annually. Drop 3 year old at preschool then off to work. Love every second of it. I've thought of buying something else, but I wouldn't be able to walk past the 911 and to get in a different car.
Buy it, use it, then repeat!

I also noticed, and am surprised, to see that different models have different size tanks (since I've now looked again). The GTS lists 17.7 gallon tank. Why wouldn't they make all the same size unless it is a 997.1 vs 997.2 situation?

While the standard 997 Carrera and Carrera S have a 16.9 gal fuel tank, the 997 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S have a 17.7 gal. fuel tank owing to two fuel tanks saddle bagged around the front suspension to allow for the all wheel drive in the front end.

This is child's play.
As a fuel retailer, with gas at $4 per gallon, my favorite discussion was with a customer who after purchasing $5 worth of gas for her Tahoe, swore that she got nothing for her $5 because she didn't notice the needle move on her gas gauge.

Couple of possible explanations...
The pump's not measuring the gasoline correctly. There have been stories of these being tweaked in favor of the station. Even a small tweak over many gallons pumped out of many pumps can add up. Some station owners complain that gas margins are so low they lose money on every gallon they sell.
Check the sticker on the pump to see when it was last checked. In some areas with revenue down and cut backs weights/measurement checks and enforcement is not being done as rigorously as it was in the past.
The amount of fuel actually pumped is also affected by temperature. While the pump may reported 16.8 gallons if the fuel was warm less than this went into the tank.
Lastly, if the station use nozzles that have a vapor recovery system this can suck up gasoline. On a related note even the automatic shut off system can malfunction and can ingest some gasoline and yet not shut off the nozzle.
Sincerely,
Macster.
