Question Engine coolant running low

hi guys,

I popped my engine hood and noticed that the engine coolant is running low (in the middle of the Min and the bottom of the container). I have attached a picture and now I wonder if I can use coolant that I can buy at the local auto shop. (owner's manual says the coolant has to be Porsche certified) The dealer will probably top it up for me but I don't want to risk it if any potential problem will be caused by that. Any advice?

As I understand it, the culprit can sometime be a defective expansion tank cap. An easy fix otherwise. Especially if your tank is mounted upside down I have topped mine off with Peak 50/50 when I had a similar problem

I had the cap issue. Mine was ever so slightly loose, but pressure builds and I was loosing some coolant that way (also running hotter, as air gets in). Ordered a new cap as a precaution, but no problems since reset.

add distilled water, replace cap if not the latest version and go drive!

+1... safer to use distilled water until you get some Porsche coolant on hand. Mixing the wrong coolant will cause it to jell up - very bad. BTW, your expansion tank shows that it's down just a small amount(1/4 liter perhaps). Your total coolant system holds 8+ gallons of coolant.

the coolant level lines up with that part number printed on the container. My dealer called me later this afternoon and told me to bring it back tomorrow and they will top up the fluid for me. Thanks for all your replies. Really appreciate them.

mine shows the same level when cold, and when the engine is warm it raises up above the min level somewhere in between min and max. should i top off?

It should be between the lines when cold.
