Thanks for all the replies, a rather mixed bag....I guess I keep asking myself, what is the difference between this car and 997.1 with potential IMS failure at the same price point. At least with an 09, you don't have that luming catastrophe to worry about.

But deep down she likely appreciates it as well as your love for your country [and Porsches]. Thanks for what you do also from another AD type. GL with purchase and car if you get it...may be the deal of a lifetime! Rob

Personally I would go with a late lo milage .1 and not sweat the Ims. Prices are down. Look for 5-6 k miles a year and good service records. Good luck and thanks.

You can always purchase an aftermarket warranty. The car sounds like an honest offering. Thanks for your service to our country.

Many talk of the long term durability of these cars. I plan to run 997.1 to 150-200k miles barring trouble, hopefully to a track car after that. If the DFI motor is up to P standards, you should still have many miles of fun! Of course you should try to get the best deal possible and consider aftermarket warranties if that's your style.

Having owned an 07 997.1 C2S and currently owning a 09 997.2 C2S PDK I would recommend the 997.2 even with the mileage. It isn't unusually high for a daily driver and if it is well maintained it is likely to be trouble free for many miles.

Depends on how long you plan to keep it and how many miles per year you plan to drive it. Some people pay extra for pristine 911's than hardly drive it. Sure they'll likely have lower operating costs but they lose big on depreciation.

If you're going to put 10k+ miles/yr than I wouldn't buy this car. I bought a 2006 base Carrera in Feb with 73k miles on it but it was cpo'ed (for the second time) for $36.5k. I planned on driving it about 5k mi/yr with the plan on getting a newer convertible 911 for a year or two. From that perspective I saw an awesome opportunity to drive a 911 for not much money. How low could a 997 be worth if I go to sell in about a year with even 80k miles and a few months of CPO warranty left?

I'm in Manassas, who is the dealer you're talking to - Tysons, Arlington or? Make sure you get a PPI and you can buy an aftermarket warranty from Porsche. I paid $2,700 for 5 years with a $200.00 deductible for my 07 911 TT. I bought the warranty from Arlingtron.

I don't have a problem withthe mileage, in fact, it might be a selling point for a guy looking for a good used Porsche. I figure that a car like that must have been well taken care of, or the owner wouldn't have put that many miles on it before he traded. You say they have all the service records from new, and if you can confirm the availability of an extended warranty, then what's to lose. You'll get a car with the Direct Fuel Injected motor and the PDK transmission - both highly desirable items.

I may have missed it, but have you driven the car?

The 997 should be a good high mileage car. With that many miles so early the manufacturing gremlins should be gone. 50k is a good price if it passes inspection for cpo.
