Default Porsche Financing question

I am looking at a car in Miami but live in Connecticut. The dealer is saying that to get Porsche financing I need to sign the paperwork in person at the dealership. Has anyone run into this before? It makese no sense, as business deals these days are always done by mail or electronic signatures.

I was hoping to avoid flying down as a fellow Renlister has checked out the car and I was going to get a PPI. Adding in the cost to transport the car and flying down there is adding quite a bit to the cost of the car.

They should be able to do it by mail. It's not like Porsche Financial is actually going to be at the dealership to make sure you sign it in person.
On the other hand, if you did fly down, why not drive the car back? Your only transport cost would be your fuel, and you'd only need to buy a one-way ticket.

I agree. It makes no sense.

Really, really long drive and not an exciting one either. I-95 is never fun.

I can't speak to interstate transactions but in my experiences dealerships simply gave me the paperwork, I took it home for my wife to sign, returned the paperwork and drove away with the car. In fact, on one occasion the dealership even gave me the car to drive home in to get the paperwork signed (I suppose that technically I was test driving the car). Anyway, PFS, I suppose like any other financing institution, has multiple tiers depending on your credit rating and past relationship with them. This is just information, not suggestive and perhaps it plays a role. Otherwise, I guess the dealer doesn't want to sell the car that badly (and who knows, maybe he has another buyer and is just making things hard for you hoping that you'll bail). Good Luck!!!

Why can't they use FedEx?

Maybe dealership needs to assure themselves "you are who you are" and not impersonating someone else.

That's what a notary is for. I even offers to go to a local dealer to sign the paperwork.

They want you there in person, so they can sell you more crap you don't need.

I bought my last three cars 'sight unseen' including my 997. Email, scan and PDF for signatures and FedEX for the actual paperwork. Sounds like the dealer is not really interested.

Could be. They say I can apply for non-Porsche financing which would not require me to come down in person. Sounds suspicious to me. Maybe they can make more money with another bank - likely at a higher rate. Porsche is offering 1.9 on 2009 CPOs.

I bought my current 997 from a Porsche dealer in California last Nov, and signed all of the paperwork via Fedex. It's financed through Porsche Financial. The rates are unreal.

On my previous 09 CS2 the dealer offered to ship the car to me and pick up my trade. I would have signed the papers with the hauler. I opted to pick it up in person.

Yup. And I was the next town over. Must sign in person
