In gear all the time. Use 1st (or reverse) as they have the most holding power. I never use the parking brake. If I'm on something steep enough, I will curb the front wheels to provide added insurance against the car rolling away.

+1 do both for MT(leave in gear and p-brake). After 28 yrs of doing this... well, it just doesn't fell right if I don't. Kinda like that lingering feeling that you forgot something as you walk out the house. Did I forget something... was it the wallet, sunglasses, cell phone, to do list, etc? a mile down the road and you realize... you forgot the kids as you approach their pre-school. Yes, my wife's friend actually did this. Classic. I'm sure that's how I'd feel if I didn't engage both the p-brake and place it in gear. Taught my boys this as well. Saves on the already exuberant teenager dependent auto insurance cost.

Always in gear and also at the track. Engaging the emergency brake after track or spirited drive is not recommended due to obvious reason. THE ROTORS ARE HOT!

For the past 60 years I have rarely if ever used the handbrake when parking. Always in gear.

Always in gear, handbrake at office garage but usually not at home.

Well I will go against the grain on this one. I keep it in neutral unless on an incline. Never had a problem with any of the 8 MT cars I've owned over the past 20 years. We use the handbrake on our auto cars so they don't roll when you get off the brakes.

I was taught to "put it in gear" but I made a costly mistake in the past. I started the car to warm up the engine and I was too preoccupied without disengaging the gear...my Subaru met the garage door.

Since then, if it in my garage then handbrake only with a wheel choke but in public places it's in gear when parked.

Man, that sucks. One of my fears in the garage. I'm likely overly OCD but I use wheel chokes in the garage(also acts as a stop point for my parking space). I start up my MT cars by engaging neutral gear, the brake peddle, and the hand brake. Engine warm ups are the same, however, I like to get the car moving at low RPMs vs. setting in the garage as soon as possible. Try to minimize leaving the clutch down/engaged for anything other than shifting... helps to get 100K+ miles out of my clutches before replacement. BTW, concert rain gutter splash blocks make for great low profile wheel chokes. The kind home builders leave behind after a new build.

The 997 will not start without depressing the clutch even in neutral.
