Default Dead Battery - Equivalents?

This is for an '06 997 Carrera 4.

Our original Porsche Moll battery finally gave out and I'm looking for replacements.

I know the top touted battery is the Interstate MTP-94R/H7 or Everstart Maxx 94R, however the Walmart around here doesn't have any and I'm tracking down vendors for the Interstate battery.

What other equivalents are there for exact drop-in replacements? I don't want to have to modify anything (i.e. extra nuts in places).

Interstate (MTP-91). Under $100 mostly everywhere.

Weight: 36.7lb, CCA: 700A.

I prefer AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) Gel type batteries
I replaced an Interstate MTP-H7 With a Braille 7548 AGM battery - direct replacement.

Braille AGM B7548 battery group 48
BCI Group: [?]Group 48
Length:10.9" (277mm)
Width:6.8" (173mm)
Height (without posts):7.5" (191mm)

http://www.braillebattery.com/index....tteries/b7548#

Battery sizes that fit 996 (group 49 will probably need a nut under the last, unthreaded, hole in the tray)

Group Interstate number Dimensions L x W x H Posts
48 MTP-H6 10-15/16 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top
94R MTP-H7 12-3/8 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top
49 MTP-H8 13-15/16 x 6-7/8 x 7-1/5 Top

Thanks everyone! I'm going to see if any provider's have the Braille or the 91. The 94R/H7 seems to be out of stock or not carried by most shops here.

If sealed battery... I would prefer Optima over Braille.

With this adaptor:

Thanks Adias.

I ended finding a seller of the Interstate 94R, cost a bit more than what I see other people paid. Much better battery than that Porsche Moll. She's loving that higher cranking amp and starts right up instead of that death struggle with the factory battery.

Thanks everyone!

Braille drops right in. Optima needs to have an adaqpter fabricated/mounted. Both are AGM/Gel type
Why Optima over Braille?

Optima is lighter, cheaper, widely used. Braille may be fine too, but if AGM I would go Optima.

Mistakenly bought the Porsche Moll battery back in February 2010 just to help support German industry. Big mistake. Porsche only gives a 24 month warranty and then you are on your own. Never again.

Went over to Sears about 3/10 miles away and bought a DieHard (94R is the key equivalent) and it was less costly than the factory one and carries a 3-year full replacement warranty, and a 6-year pro-rated warranty. I'm sorry, but it's not rocket science to build a decent lead-acid battery in the 21st Century. I drive my car a lot and it shouldn't just give me two dot five years of service with a two dot zero warranty. Bonus--it's sealed--no need to check the fluid levels ever.

I put it in myself so that I could clean out the battery tray and re-wax it and check the fluid drain holes on either side of the tray. Takes two tools to R&R a battery--a 10mm for the terminals and a deep socket 13mm for the hold-down. Despite the power interruption the PCM and other systems recovered on their own. With the factory navigation system even the clock got itself updated again automatically once the satellites started to pop up.

(Battery labels normally would be upside down--reversed for your reading convenience!)

Dan: When I went to the Sears site, it said the battery you showed in your post as not being compatible with an 06 911S. In fact, it said that they don't have any batteries compatible with our car. ????

I trust Dan more than a Sears cross-reference table - use the part number shown on Dan's great picture of the battery.

I first went to the Rennlist and they provided me with the key number--94R. (I surfed Rennlist on Sears' computer to get that number). With that number the sales guy found it instantly. It was truly a Form Fit Function replacement.

More often than not, Sears will simply not show a listing for 'exotic cars' so you have to put it into terms that they can focus upon!

When my factory battery died at 18 months and Porsche refused warranty on it (must drive at least 6k miles/yr), even with a bad cell identified - I said screw it and got an Interstate from the dealer, no mileage warranty exceptions. Took 10 minutes. Also got a nice Porsche trickle charger for those times when I'm not driving it for more than a few days (rare, but good to have).
