Default Need your help - steps for disabiling the "spoiler failure" warning

Hope you guys can help. I have recently installed a ducktail spoiler on my 997. This is a total replacement of the rear decklid. As such the computer now thinks I have a failure of the spoiler deployment feature and it throwing an error once I exceed 75.

I understand that this setting can be reprogrammed in the computer. My indie does not know how to do this but is more than will to figure it out at my expense. So in the attempt to save myself some $ my indie has agreed that if I can deliver the steps to him he will only charge the time it takes.

Does anyone have the steps to reprogram this that I could share with the indie?

Thanks much

Matt

Some indy's have the Porsche PIWIS computer, if so he can probably do it - if not, Porsche dealer will have to do it.

You need a PIWIS (dealer or rich indie) or a Durametric (Expert) version to do it. It is not something you can just do using the built-in options in PCM.

Maybe ask someone in your PCA region if they have a cable and can help you out?

I would do it for you but it would be a long drive .

I wasn't clear - my bad. I understand the need for the PIWIS and it's something my indie has. I'm looking for the steps within it to disable the warning.

Thanks

your indy has a PIWIS and doesnt know how to do it?? sorry man, but take it to a different indy, to one that is more qualified to work on porsches. even i've seen it in my durametric and i'm somewhat of an idiot with that thing. so you'll prob be safer going to someone more qualified.

Hope you're Indy is not charging you for his RTFM time. He should only charge you for the time it takes to perform the service and not the time it takes to learn how to do it.

--- snip ---

From the Aerokit Installation Instructions TSB 1/05 6658:

Connect PIWIS tester and switch on ignition.
Select vehicle and Rear control unit.
Select Coding, then Spoiler and code fixed spoiler.

--- snip ---

Hope this helps,

T.

That just what I was looking for. Thanks very much.

Here's a bad phone pic of why I need this done.

Best,

Matt

Matt,

It does look familiar...

Now I am thinking about removing the existing 3rd brake light since it has been rendered useless...

Me too. I just need to get this warning taken care of. That looks great on your car and I love the orange

Paul,

Plan on taking better pictures this weekend. 1) yes, it has a rear stop light 2) ~$1400 with extra prime / prep which saved me $ on the back end 3) it's a 4) Mike's Auto Body did the work and really took his time. He's a Porsche guy through and through....

On a side note, I really disappointed with Bill @ Eurotech. I've been bring my two P cars there for years and he wants $200 to reset the spoiler code. It's a 15 minute job. I think he's lost a customer....

More to come

Thanks all

Matt

you can try to call norwood dealer or EPA - Jerry definitely has PIWIS, so, may be he will be interested to get you as a customer... i honestly just gave up to get frustrated of how much stuff costs, it is fight you cannot win. just got tie rods replaced - $660. it is just an expensive junk, and labor costs a lot but if you want top level mechanic there is very little competition between them and prices are all pretty much the same anyway... but i agree $100 would be more realistic than $200 for a spoiler reset.

After putting the aero kit on my 997.2 I took the car to Porsche of the Village and they reset mine free when they aligned the car.

Did you by any chance try to put something in a regional forum (or on your PCA chapter website maybe?) to see if anyone has a Durametric (Expert) that could help you out?

If you go to the track here for a PCA event, there will probably be 10 people with durametric cables in their toolboxes...

It literally takes 2 mins, and that is if you have never done it. I can send you instructions.

Cheers,

T.

My Tampa Porsche dealer deleted my Spoiler Failure warning this week and hit me up for a full hour on the clock. I also have a CEL because I removed the catalytic converter. The dealer refused to program out that warning because some sort of "Porsche Rule" about blah, blah, blah....

Is it a simple fix with the right tool?
