Out with my old 911, in with a new 997 S
Hi,
Sold my 1986 911 and bought a 2006 997 S. I wish I could have kept my 911, because both cars are unique.
My first couple of days driving the 997 S have been fun. Took it for a spirited drive on Mulholland Drive and my first impressions are:
1. With the PASM set to the hardest setting and Sports mode on, the car felt awesome. In a lot of ways it reminded me of driving my 911 on the track.
2. This is an obvious one, but the power of the 3.8 is intimidating to me. I'm used to flooring my 1986 3.2 engine out of every turn, but with the Carrera S that feels scary to me.
3. The transmission is amazing. So smooth and so simple to shift. Coming from a 915, this is awesome.
4. The Premium Bose sound system sounds great. Very bassy.
All in all I'm surprised how raw the car feels. Yes, it's a much heavier and more comfortable ride, but it still feels like a 911.
Looking forward to taking it to the track...

Dealership. I threw my number at them which was several thousands less than what they we're asking and they went for it straight away. Their lot was packed to the brim. I think they wanted to get rid of it fast. I had it PPI'ed at TRE Motorsports, a very reputable shop in LA, and it came back super clean. It has all the options I like, except no Nav. Don't care about Nav. My iPhone and small Garmin with live traffic updates are fine. The Chrono package and PASM is pretty sweet though.

Wrong It's Slate Grey. The back lighting and all the funky iPhone filters darkened it quite a bit. Look at the tire for what is black in the picture. It will give you a reference to what kind of grey my car is. It's semi dark grey. A warmer grey if you will.

Slate Gray is a fantastic color. It's so good in person. While Atlas has a lot of blue and metallic in it, Slate has some brown and metallic. It's really good-looking. Congrats!!

Interesting perspective I fully agree with. Two great 911s. Enjoy your new car!

Very nice! I love Slate Grey! If you find yourself itching for a nice drive, let's go for an early morning spin up Angeles Crest.

Very interesting read and congrats on your new ride. Slate is the only color I like better than my Atlas.
Wow, going from a 915 tranny to this? That must be an amazing shift (no pun intended) in the requisite technique.
