I have 27,000 miles on my 08 997 TT - oil temps usually at 200, maybe 210 on hot Texas summer days. I've never seen the "gunk" in my filler tube. I change oil 2x/year.

As Edgy says.. depends on the ambient temp etc. whether you'll see this. When I bought my 997 in boston a few years back i noticed this milkshake (which normally might be a symptom of a blow headgasket). I asked the tech at the dealer and they said this is normal occasionally. I was questioning this so I looked at about 5 cars on the lot and they all showed this.

Since then I've noticed it once in a while depending upon how the car was driven (how long, how hot) and what the ambient weather is like. You can even get it to go away somewhat by driving the car til it's nice and hot and leaving the oil cap off while the car cools.

This photo is probably some of the most milkshake I've seen though. usually it's less.

Change that oil right away. Also keep an eye on the coolant level to make sure you aren't leaking any into the oil.

Thanks for all of the advice. My coolant level is below the 'add' mark. I've booked an appointment for Monday. Will update as I know more.

I changed my oil yesterday and recalled this discussion topic. Took a pic of my oil filter chamber as a reference... Not sure if you'd see any gunk in this chamber but this is what a normal one looks like JIC you get in there. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Not sure you read it correctly. It's my 'oil filler' spout. The black part on top of the air box! I do like the pix though!

Yup, OP is at the "filler", not the "filter".

Yes, that's why I mentioned that I wasn't sure you'd see any junk in the filter chamber. This was really a JIC post should you have the opportunity to look at the other end of it as well.

So, dealer states the car is normal. It passed the pressure test. Guess I'm good to go on the gunk....
