991 deivered
Ok 46 miles on the odo now
this is an awesome vehicle- replaces a 997.2
smoother- doesnt feel larger- finally we entered the 21st century with electronics
c2s anthracite/sand
painted wheels
sport chrono
pdk
bose
a few other minor options
Dont ask for pictures yet! they're coming
most of the salesman were oogling the wheels- I really like that option!

The handling characteristic of an 11 up until the 997 is its unique dynamics signature.
If one nows says the 991 handles better, meaning is now balanced, non-pendulum-like, one is effectively decrying what a 911 really is. If that is the case why get a Porsche, when it handles like an Aston, an SL, or an Audi?
Conclusion: the 991 handles better... therefore the 911 was an anachronism and we spent all these years suffering with it and finally the 991 saved us. I think not.

You are reaching here. He simply stated it "handles better." You got all of that out of those two words? He did not say the previous versions handled poorly.
He is entitled to his opinion, as are you, but why do you persist in bashing people who make a favorable comment about the 991? We get it.... you don't like the 991, so don't buy one.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying that the new 991 is faster, handles better, and is more fuel efficient than the 997, when it is a simple fact.
Just like the simple fact that every new version of the 911 has been an improvement over the previous version, in all these absolute terms. What on earth is wrong with that? It's another great evolution of a great car that has been around longer than most car models in the planet.
The fact that the new version does most things better than the previous one, is not in any way detracting of the value and qualities of the older version. It's simply evolution. I absolutely love my 997.2; I purchased my 997.2S brand new, last November, completely aware that the new model was just a couple of months away. Yet I made my decision, purchased the car of my dreams, and I'm completely happy with it. Even if the 991 is better at many things than my 997.2, that doesn't detract one iota from the qualities of my 911. Why on Earth should it??
And none of the above makes me focus on the less well thought out details of the 991, to try and "mentalize" myself that my 997.2 is somehow a "better 911" than the 991. That would be just plain silly. I'm perfectly happy with my 997, and I'm very happy for the folks that are now getting their 991's.
I look forward to keeping my current 911 for years. Then again I may not, and change; maybe to a 991, maybe to its next evolution. If and when I do this, it will be based on how happy / unhappy I maybe with my current 911 at any given point in time, on how good / bad a potential replacement 911 may make me feel, and lastly, on whether my financial situation at the time would allow me to do this (I don't resort to credit for my personal cars, I like the feeling that I actually own them).
Again, going back to the subject of this thread; congrats to the happy new 991 owner. Some interior pics would be great.
