Default Need input for my exhaust decision

I have an '06 C2S with Sport Chrono & PSE and I've been to 2 Indies to troubleshoot a rattling sound that appears to be coming out of the left side muffler.
One thought it was a broken clamp/bracket on the topside of the muffler and the other thought it was the muffler clips that were causing the rattling.

Since the muffler clip option would be the least expensive solution, I decided to give it a shot.... unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem.

Let's take a step back to describe the rattle...
It is an annoying metal rattle that is coming from the right side of the exhaust system. It is most prevalent in first and second gear in the 2k to 3.5k rpm range.
When I have the sport mode on and get in third gear and above the 3.5k rpm, I hear and enjoy that sweet sound of the PSE.

So it’s not the clips… is it the upper clamp/bracket or is it the baffles in the muffler/s?

If the PSE is toast, is this the right time to be looking at after market mufflers and if so, which one is a suitable replacement for the PSE and which one would you consider to be an upgrade?

Thank you for your help…

May be a broken tailpipe. My PPI found a similar issue before I purchased the car. P-dealer replaced the tailpipe.

I had one of the PSE cans on my 05S replaced under warranty because of similar rattling sounds, which I am pretty sure were coming from something gone loose inside the can. If you're out of warranty, then going aftermarket is probably your best bet.

My 996 had a rattle similar to what you described. The rattle was from one of the cats which had gone bad. Cats are warrantied for 8 years or 80,000 per DOT regulations.

I have heard from others that the CATs can cause a rattling sound. Not sure how to check them other than have your Porsche dealer or Indy inspect.

Does the rattle sound go away in time as the engine and exhaust system heats up?

I had the same on my '01 C4, it ended up being that I was missing what looks like a round Brillo pad that is used to damped vibration on the exhaust mounts...
Did you ever change the mufflers? Mine were changed by the previous owner to Fabspeed and apparently, the last installer did not put this back on.

I hope it's not the muffler becasue if it is, I'll have no choice but to go aftermarket. P dealer quoted me $4K plus installation.

Downside of aftermarket is that I'll lose the option of turning the sport exhaust on/off.

Thanks.. I'm having it checked by my indy next week and if it turns out to be the cats, I'll be paying the dealer a visit.

You don't need to get the entire exhaust...just get the muffler, which is about $650.

Jason, the local dealer quoted $4k for two sport mufflers.
Do you have a good source for sports mufflers?
If do need muffler/s does it make sense to consider used?

Thx
